THe .25-06 could be the ideal deer and antelope rifle. Very flat. Adequate horsepower. Light recoil. I have used the 117 Sierra BT with good results on both deer and antelope. Am going to try the new 110 gr. Accubond on elk this fall. I know its on the light side, but should work with good shot placement.

I personally have no experience with the 25-06 but a friend of mine used it on a caribou hunt and was very successful. I can’t see why the 25-06 wouldn’t work for deer. Good luck.

The 25-06 is one of the better deer calibers out there and will do everything the 243 will do and much more. It would be a good choice. I have one in the Ruger bolt action. It has worked very well for me on the biggest Mulies. It will work for elk as well however I would move up to the 6.5's and 270 and up for an elk rifles.

As a varmint caliber, the .25-06 will work in a pinch. Like an occasional ground hog or coyote taken as a target of opportunity. It's not as good as a .243 for this application, and the .243 is not as good as a .22-250.

Roskoe, I‘m surprised with your comment on the 243 not being as good as the 22-250. I would have thought that the 243 has better capabilities for bucking the wind and would be better for longer shots. Now this is just my thoughts and I didn’t go and check any charts. Maybe I’m missing something....
