The 300 wm is an excellent choice IMO for most NA game. However ifI were to behunting big bears (Grizzly, Browns, etc) it would be the min choice, Iwould feel much better with 338 or larger personally.

The .300 Win. Mag. is a fine cartridge for North American Game. Good luck.

You know if you would have done a poll in the 70's the number one big game rifle would have been the 30-06, it's adequate for anything. The only thing a mag does is give you longer ranges. People nowdays just use too big of guns for the game they pursue. You dont need a .338 for elk or moose and you dont need a 7 or 300 mag for deer.
A .300 mag is more than enough for anything on this continent.
Too many people suffering from Magnumitis these days. The .300is one fine long distance round, no doubt. To ask "is it enough" bothers me, without a doubt, yes it is, and then some.

Roskoe like I said before I see no difference in killing power..ie distance travelled, game reactionafter the shot between a 7 rem mag and the 300 mags with exception of 300 ultra mag(no experience there). I would not carry a 300 win mag in the pursuit of any grizzly or brown bear 338 would be tmy minimum caliber.

You know one of my best customers shares this view. He uses a 7 Mag for just about everything. It its too big to kill with a 7 Mag, he goes up to the .338 Win. I tend to like the .270, think the 7 Mag is in about the sameperformance class- and have a hard time thinking of a North American situation where a .300 Winchester with a 200 gr. Nosler partition would be too light. From there, I would go up to the .416 Rem Mag.

Don't have much use for it.If a 30-06 can't cleanly kill something, one needs to move up to a dangerous game cartridge, and the .300 WM is not one of them.

Evrything... It has enough umph fpr the big stuff and is great for deer and antelope if you have to reach out really far.

redhead, the 300 Win. Mag and 7mm Rem. Mag. are very good all purpose calibers. These calibers will drop just about any game you are hunting.
