I have always preferred a wood stock because in the off season, or if I go through periods of time where I am not able to get out and shoot, the next best thing is to sit and stare at my gun cabinet. I don't think the black plastic guns would have the same effect.
Now, if I were like John Kerry, and crawled through the woods on my belly trying to sneak up on and old turkey with my trusty ole 12 guage, then I probably would find use for something more durable.
