Rebel Hog. Many years ago I lost my right eye when the head flew off of a nail and went clear through it. I had to start shooting LH. Now my left shoulder is worn out partly because of shooting to many big rifles. I have a tough time getting the rifle up to the bad shoulder as it doesn't want to lift that high. The answer in the not to far future may have to be to shoot with my left eye and right arm. This may mean hunting with the Encore or Contender.

I have an appointment with one more specialist next week to see if surgery would be of any use to me. The old saying about if I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself sure holds true for me. One day I ran about 50 rounds through my 416 Rem Mag. For about a week I had a pain in the area where the collar bone hooks on to the shoulder. It went away after a few weeks but kept comming back once in a while. A couple years ago it came back to stay. If I shoot a big recoiling gun now, I pay for it for ten days or so. Not just a bruise but pain through the whole joint. With anything from about a 308 on up I have to limit my sessions to four or five shots then call it a day. Oh the joys of living this long.:D

I have a .244 Remington(aka 6mm Rem.)in 788 bolt and this gun is a great pack all day coyote gun.I shoot 100 gr federal classics for deer and coyotes.It is very accurate,and fun to shoot,just don't lose the clips to them.
Soundslike you have found a winner in the ruger.

James, sorry did not know you were missing an eye. I know what
you mean about the shoulders. I have .338mag, .358mag. 7mm Mag,
35Rem, and you name it. The last 8yrs I have gone to 6.5mmSwede
because of the right shoulder. I have also used .243 for deer, but have
to be real sure of the shot or let it walk. I use the 6.5mm from coyotes
to moose.

I also have to stay with a smaller cal. because of 5 neck and back surgerys any major recoil and I pay big time but I will not give up hunting or target shooting till I can not hold a rifle at all.

RH. I love that ols Swede too. Low recoil and whack the deer is dead. I have three of the Military models. One it sporterized with a synthetic stock. The other had the turned down bolt and is drilled and tapped but still has the military stock. The last one is all original military with the bayonette and flash hider and sling. I also had the 700 classic but sold that one to my Brother.

So far no problem with the neck. My right wrist is not very good but I drove a jillion big nails with that one.
