I've had my 870 for over 25 years without on ounce of trouble. I won't go as far as saying it's the best pump gun for the money though. That honor goes to the venerable Winchester model 12.
The Remington is a close second.

Swamp, have to agree with you.I have a Win mod12 20ga that my father bought
in 1935. He gave it to me as my first shotgun in 1953 and it still shoots good.
Never had a problem with it.

I've enjoyed shooting and hunting with my grandpa's 870since day one of hunting. It came with a fixed IC choke, but Iuse a replacement RemChoke barrel to take turkey and small game hunting.
If I could own just one firearm, it would be a700 ADL .30-06, but I would actually get the most use in the field (and at home for that matter) with the 870. Great shotgun.

My grandfather, who ran a country store, took an 870 Wingmaster with 28 in. barrel and Modified choke and 2 3/4 in. chamber in as payment on an account back in the mid 50's. That gun has served both myself and my brother well ever since. Since I moved away from home, my brother (who remained nearby) continued to use it for practically everything until he got a new 870 recently. Since I lived too far away to use the old one conveniently, I bought an 870 Special Purpose with 24 in. barrel, 3 in. chamber, and interchangeable chokes several years ago and have continued to use it for everything from dove to turkeys. I don't do any deer or big game hunting in areas that require shotguns, but would not hesitate to use it in that way as well. It has never failed me. I can't imagine even wanting anything but an 870.

Yup.... I have a Rem 870 Express 12GA like everyone else. You all are right too... It is by far, the best priced, best quality, best bang for the buck, best go-anywhere-do-anything, pump gun ever made!

Stated this in another post. I just finished a shotgun course at work. We use 870's they worked great, they only went down when we severely abused them. We were firing them non-stop for two days. The only time they weren't being fired is when we were running to grab more ammo. If we didn't wear shooting gloves there would have been no way to hold them as they were just getting to hot. We had front sights fall off twice as the heat compromised the welds (after market sights) and one mag that swelled up to the point of not being able to cycle the pump easily. Don't think the average person will be firing 25 rounds at a time as fast as they can just to do it again a couple minutes later. So long as we would fire some oil onto them every so often they would take the abuse. I was very impressed, although my shoulder wasn't
