I am not very familiar with these mauser types even though I have owned 2 1909 argentines(already sporterized) and have hunted with 2 98 GEW's(already sporterized). Which of these is the better design and why ? I am basically interested in how well they feed rounds...how well the handles are compatible with low mounted scopes and quality of workmanship.

OEH,
I'm sure it isn't out of your league, the problem is finding one. They stopped making them in 59 or 60. I sure would like to have one. They only came in 270, 30-06, and the magnum in 300 and 375 h&h. The only mauser I have experience with is the 98 GEW and mine was sporterized. A very accurate reliable rifle though. 8mm originally.
