I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about the spartan rifle company. I saw the ad on remington's site and was getting interested in one of those nifty singles. Anyone familiar with this? EJ

They're relatively new. They are imported from Russia (made by Baikal) and sold by Remington under the Spartan brand. I read good things about their shotguns, but don't know anything about their rifles.

I took a look at their website, and they look pretty good. Especially for the price. I wonder how they shoot because i'm interested in a .223 right now, and for a listed price of $223 it puts in in the range of NEF but looks way better.

I saw one of the over and under 12 guage offerings yesterday at garts sports in boulder. Looks great! Not a ruger, but I am betting it kills birds as well. Yeah, I am interested in possibly getting a 270 single shot. At the tune of around 200, I could really be interested. And if ya think about it, its only real criteria is that it is accureate, a single cant jam. EJ

Anyway, there's some guys that own Bakal's HERE. You may want to wonder over there, and ask your question.

Yeah, I suppose you are right, it could misfire. But it does stand to reason that there isnt much to go wrong. I think the only reason I would consider one of these is due to remington sponsoring and warrantying them. I got rid of the 270 to get the 30-06, which I wouldnt trade but I would still like to have a 270 in a single. Money doesnt allow for several nice rifles. What about those brazetech things wal mart shows on thier website? EJ

I was just looking at these rifles on the Rem. site. That single shot SPR18 look pretty ugly to me. Now the double rifle SPR22 looks nice. I'm with you rick, that double rilfe in .45-70 would be sweet. Only thing though, It looks like it won't take full house .45-70 handloads. You have to keep pressures down to 28000 psi (standard factory loads).
Oh well, I guess I won't be able to use it on the cape buffalo that keep digging up the yard here in my PA home.
