which gun is best.

Hello everybody I was wondering what company would be best to purchase a rifle from. My price limit is up to 700 dollars. I was thinking of the Winchester Model 70 Stealth. If someone could tell me what they think of that gun and some other types i could possibly get. Thanks.

Which gun is best? For what purpose? Hunting of big game (how big), varmint hunting, target shooting, etc. What features are you looking for? Where will you be hunting, terrain, etc. Tough question.
All of the major manufacturers make good rifles. Some here will condemn one model or another based mostly on personal prejudices, likes/dislikes, and/or a bad experience with one or another gun.
Given your limit of $700 you should have no problem purchasing a quality firearm.
Rifles by Remington, Ruger, Savage, Winchester, etc., they're all pretty good. It really just depends on what you're looking for in the way of features, chambering, etc. Do you
want push feed, controlled round feeding, two position safeties or three way, wood stock or synthetic, blued or stainless barrels/actions, blind mag., hinged floorplates, or detachable mags., adjustable triggers, etc., etc.?
Winchester makes a good rifle. I particularly like the Featherweight Stainless model.
I don't like synthetic stocks, but then that's just my personal bent.
Remington has a couple of models I like such as the model 700LSS Mountain rifle.
Rugers are one of the best for the money, but need trigger work.
Savage makes some of the most accurate (out of the box) rifles around.
It's a heck of a market out there - lots of variety, and very competitive. Something for
everyone. And yes, can be confusing.
Take your time in deciding what you want, what you need, and whatever you do, pick a rifle that fits you, that feels right to you.
And, be sure to also allow enough $$$ for a good quality scope.

Well, I was in the market for a steath and couldn't find one 2 years ago. Now they seem to be everywhere. I have seen them hit and miss on accuracy. Some were real tack drivers. Some so so. For thier price, I don't know if I would do it. I ended up building a tactical rifle.

Go with a higher end savage and get a good quality scope.

SniperEye350,
Do you have 700.00 for the rifle only, or 700.00 for rifle and scope?

I am willing to pay 700 for the gun and more for a scope or both for 700. I want to purchase a medium to long range deer rifle. I am thinking a bolt action, synthetic stock with a blued barrel.

Well, that narrows it down some Basically, look around, find what you like,
and take your pick. Blued bolt action rifles with synthetic stocks are available from any
of the major manufacturers (Remington, Ruger, Savage, Sako/Tikka, Winchester).
Again, find one that you like, that "fits" you -feels right for you, and has the features you like.
Recommended cartridges could be 270Win., 270WSM, 280Rem., 7mm-08, 7mmRem.Mag., 30-06, etc. Any of these will do.

Well said Virginia7!!! Personally I'm a Remington fan, but that just me! I would also recommend getting a good scope. Leupold's VX-II line of scopes are great for the money ($259-$400). In my opinion they are the best scopes you can get in this price range! Leupold also has a life time warranty and their customer service is great, and their made in America !
