CanWoodsman the broad part of lake Champlain which is 120 miles long is open but the northern and southern bays (All sheltered and shallow) have all iced up providing an opportunity to fish for panfish.

Got out for the 1st time last night. It was great to be back out on the ice and the crappies were biting!

Know what you mean about good to back on the hard water. My first of the season was yesterday and today we have 10 below zero with 30mph winds so I am housebound. Didn't get any crappies but lots of sunnies. The calico usually start in a couple of weeks. I suspect we are fishing too shallow for them at the moment but that is where the ice is ok..

Not yet in northern NJ. Well... a little thin layer that ducks can walk on.

I am getting ready for ice fishing.
