Default Gar pike

Here a pic of a gar pike I snagged with a husky jerk. They're everywhere in this back bay of this lake. Strange fish...Put up a pretty good fight though. It jumped completely out of the water about 3 times.

Yeah, probably a lot easier too...
I bet bowhunting for them would be something too.

Is a garpike a hybrid of some sort? Looks like a regular gar to me..

I think were talking about the same fish. Maybe it's just that we give them different names locally. Kinda like pickerel and walleye...

Jigger,

Garpike must be local term for Gar. Gar is a Gar is a miserable no good prehistoric fish. Gar,Pickerel,Walleye are all seperate species. Biggest fresh water fish I've ever seen was a Gar.

Rusty,

Yep - Alligator gar. There is another type of gar out there, but can't remember? One is bigger than the other. Nasty fish and - terrible in spring when they spawn, eat everthing in their wake, muck up bass and other spawning grounds (like carp).
