In my experience the casting rods don't work well with spinning reels. I made the mistake last year of tryin this combination. On the casting rods the first eyelet is pretty small not like on a spinning rod. When the line comes off of the spinning reel it is coming off in a circle and makes contact with the first eyelet limiting casting distance. It also knots up the line. I don't know if this makes any sense to you, but that is my experience. The spinning reel is better when combined with a spinning rod. JMO

Dan is right on, you have to use the right rod with the right reel.

Dan is correct... if you are going to use a spinning reel get a spinning rod..
