From: a fishin\' hole in north Alabama
I posted this on "Regional" a week ago and have received no replies. Here goes again:
Are there good places to fly fish in Alabama? I understand fly fishing is the technique used for trout, right? If so, I assume you can't fly fish in Aabama as there are no trout. Can you fly fish for other species???

you can fly fish for just about anything. we have fly fished fresh water for panfish and bass. we have flyfished salt water for snook, tarpon, redfish, and just about any other flats fish. my girlfriend's parent live in montgomery and he has fly fished for bass in a lake around there a few times with some luck... anyways, good luck.

think he means instead of playing with the smaller bass, use those flies to try and find the bigger bass.
I'd add a dahlberg diver or some deer hair sliders for top water action. If bass are good for something, that has to be it.
Careful though, the pike like these bigger flies also.
I fly fish for anything and everything. If you havent noticed, guys are getting hooked on fly fishing for CARP! Yup nasty ole carp. There's quite a big movement of guys trying it and getting hooked, calling it fresh water flats fishing. Dont ask me though I've never tired it as we have no carp around here. We do go after some whitefish when they are around while grayling fishing.
Realize most fish eat bugs of some sort at some point, fish at other points, or fish eggs when the season is in. So when you look at things as a hole, there shouldnt be a fish out there that is uncatchable on a fly rod in theory......some are just tougher then others!
