Default ? on Hair Rigs Carp Fishing

I,ve shot plenty with my bow but I'm going to give the rod and reel a try. I've heard about hair rigs but I have no idea what they are or how they work. Can anyone explain how they are used or have a picture of one to see what they look like?

Does anyone have any good home recipes for bait???

Thanks for any info

Thanks for the link, it really helps to understand the concept when you can see the diagrams. The only thing I don't get yet is how the stopper works. Is it actually tied in? If not how do you keep it from flying out when you cast?
