Actually I never quit fishing. Here in Michigan it's a year around sport. Some of the best fishing to be had is just before and during the hunting season. Some of the biggest Muskies caught in Lake St. Clair is in October, and November. They're fatting up big time before ice-up. The salmon, brown trout, and steelhead fishing really picks up come October in Lake Huron also.
We usually make a few trips to Ontario to Lake Simco for ice fishing. And talk about the jumbo perch. Then in the spring the smelt, and sucker runs start. Plus our trout fishing opens too. So who quits fishing, Not many around here.

All year long if you want. There's allways an open season on either Trout or Steelhead in NY. Fishing opportunities 12 months a year. Stream, river, lake or through the ice. The toughest time is during Bow/Gun Deer season though. For obvious reasons!
