Default Frozen Chosen - a documentary on Lake sturgeon

This past weekend, I found a really neat documentary on Netflix, about the sturgeon spearing season (16 days long) on Lake Winnebago.

Check it out. What a neat fishery and event. It shows the win-win of a community that values wildlife resources and the fish.

They are protected here on Lake Champlain since they were almost wiped out in the early 1900's by commercial netting. Fish and Wildlife have been netting some of them in the rivers for study on building the population back. Cool fish but I haven't seen them in the wild.

I'll check it out, my bud has speared them, i've always wanted to head over there and try it. In Sept we can get a permit and catch/keep them on certain waters. When you smoke them they have a slight ham taste. We've caught 2 this summer on nightcrawlers & quickly threw them back, as we can't keep them.
