Default What is the best way to catch minnows?

Where I live there is No place to buy minnows.
And trying to catch them with a dip net is a lot harder than it looks.

What do you do to catch minnows?

Thank You

Bait, chum, them in. Get a cheap box of dry cat food, poor some in a plastic container add water and mash into a thick paste. Add a little sand for weight, mix and form into balls a little smaller than a tennis ball. When you see some minnows throw in one of your chum balls and they will all come start eating, a few minutes later get them all in one cast net throw. Works great for shrimp too.

Find a beaver dam and put baited minnow traps below the dam. Works 90% of the time all the time.

Little bitty hooks, little bitty baits and really ultra-light tackle!

Sorry couldn't resist. In seriousness, use a cast net.

I used to use a minnow seine that was about 4' square. attached it to a couple old broom handles and waded the creeks using the poles to poke the sides of the creek to chase the minnows out to the middle into the seine. had a buddy carry a minnow bucket put them in. in Pa. you have to have a fishing license to seine for minnows.

I used to use the same gear to get soft shell crawfish for bass bait in some small farm ponds. No idea how the crawfish get there but I could usually seine enough for several fishing outings in a half hour. Now I use mostly artificial baits instead of live bait and do quite well.
