Yes I keep them now....I just retired last Sept. Before that I was strictly catch and release...I did not eat this one , I generally only keep the smaller bass...I let the big ones go...I gave this one to a family, they just called and said it was delicious.

Today we boated 11. I already have 2 meals of them in the freezer so we released all 11. They were perfect size.

Bass can taste good when prepared right..Here's how I fix them.

Fillet bass...nothing over 17 inches.
I have a pan of ice salt water while working...rinse blood out of fish and freeze.
When ready to fry...thaw in salt water..After 2 or 3 hours dump water and soak one more time..add a tablespoon of lemon juice..after 2 hours dump and dry fish with paper towell...I soak until water comes out clear.

Dredge in seasoned flour
Dredge in beatin eggs.
Dredge in Panko Crumbs.
Put in HOT peanut oil until golden brown Outstanding...

Very good on roll with tar tar sauce...We all love bass now....However; we don't hoard them up or give many away...Two meal surplus is plenty. I also catch plenty of tilapia and bluegills.

Good to hear Chuck. We are having one of the top two most brutal winters on record. DNR is expecting one of the largest fish-kills ever recorded. This occurs when ice is too thick (currently 25" or more) and sunlight cannot penetrate to vegetation. The vegetation will die and oxygen is depleted. Of course several will survive and life will continue. That is one of the most incredible things about wildlife is their ability of adaptation!

Sorry to hear about the nasty winter..I hope the fish kill won't be as bad as expected.
