what exactly is wrong with your motor?

Chuck7 03-22-2011 10:52 AM

It's not the motor Josh..its the seam in my floor of the aluminum jon boat..so far JBWelder has worked fine..but I believe that marine Tex will be even better

JoshKeller 03-22-2011 05:27 PM

you said you dropped the motor off at a mechanic?

Chuck7 03-23-2011 12:19 AM

Josh..I just use my 55 pound thrust MinnnKota..I haven't used my gas motor for months.,I dropped it off...the mechanic said the carb was dirty.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

do you run stabil in your gas? if not, use it. it keeps gas from turningsour and gumming everything up. i also do a shock treatment of seafoam once a year to keep carbon down.

What is stabil Josh??

Gangly 03-24-2011 10:09 AM

Stabil is a fuel additive that keeps the gasoline from gumming up your carbs during prolonged periods of non-use. Particularly effective with keeping ethanol from seperating the water out of the fuel and causing issues.

Chuck7 03-24-2011 10:24 AM

sounds like a good investment..would this work in weedeatters and mowers as well?

Gangly 03-24-2011 10:51 AM

Yes, definately in lawn mowers. If your weedeater takes mixed fuel (oil and gas) its not a big deal because the ethanol in the gas doesnt draw out the moisture because of the oil present. 2 strokes aren't affected nearly as much as 4 strokes. Also, fuel injected motors don't seem to have near the issues with gumming up from ethanol as do carb'd motors.

To summarize: if it's 4 stroke, or carb'd, you definitely need to add fuel stabalizer. 2 strokes can get away without it, but its still a good idea to use it if you don't use that engine often, particularly if you use gas that has ethanol in it. Stabil is a good one to use.
