February is a difficult month..Some lakes are on and some are still off. NOrmally the shallow lakes are on..What I do is look at the local paper...Our paper reports the results of our local fishing tournamnets..I ignor the regular fishing reports, as the purpose of those is to sell fishing tackle..HOWEVER; I pay attention to the local tournament reports..example if Lake A had fisherman catching nice stringers of fish..you can bet that I will be fishing on Lake A ...and payihg attention to what they used..if no lure uis mentioned..I flip. Flipping is hard work..This past weekend I saw a few fishermen..some where chucking spinnerbaits...or comfortabling casting worms on the shore line from their boat..THEY CAUGHT NOTHING..I was on the shoreline dipping a worm in every crack and cranny..and boated 9...BASS are not stupid..the big ones are big because they are smart.they are in thick cover away from shoreline wading birds and fishermen.
Lures.... In Feb...they will be spawning..so I will flip or pitch the shoreline..it takes a long time but you cover the water more thoroughly . I will flip a worm that is NOT a ribbon tail..As the ribbon gets hung up too much..My go to lure is a worm..but if I'm catching alot of fish..I'll go with a jig.I use a black worm when available.but other colors work good too as long as they are dark colors..This year I'm strictly fishing for big bass...so it's flipping all the way. Look at the picture below..I flip all the way back to where the dead stuff is touching the live cat tails..and if I can find a hole..I go farther back..this is how the money makers fish most Florida lakes..Big Bertha lives there ... ![]() This lake is a natural lake..and very shallow..My deep fishing spot is still LOCK JAW CITY... I use nothing but braid..20 pound Power Pro like Kevin Van Dam ...most of the other pros use 65 pound test..as it's a trip pulling big ones out of the jungle..no break offs yet..so far.. |
I boated three large ones today, they came off of two types of the lures mentioned. I'll give a hint, the lures today were not what most people think I usually throw :)
Chuck will prolly get this right 3.41 lbs 2.44 lbs 4.21 lbs My best three fish stringer ever, and in under and hour on lunch :) The pictures will have two of the lures shown. The big girl doesnt have the lure shown. |
gangly..do you have pics to go with those weights...you are starting to scare me..
YIKES!!! |
yup, saving them to the huntingnet host now, will post them in the tourney section

and Texas is just like Florida..once you get a boat..we are in serious trouble..your doing pretty darn good putting the pressure on us from the shoreline..
