opinion on line?
 

wanting to switch and try a new type/brand of line. I have been a die hard spiderwire user pretty much since the day it came out. I ahve been looking heavily at the PowerPro. any suggestions on a good line. i like smooth casting that wont crimp easy but still has a decent diameter.

You wont regret Power Pro, its my personal favorite. I have also turned a few people on here to it. :D

how smooth is the casting on it. with some of the fishing i do i need some DISTANCE. lol

extremely smooth, Just spool it tight. Make sure you either put electrical tape on the spool or back the braided with about 10 yards of small mono. This will prevent it spinning on the spool and costing you a big fish. I can cast real well with it, as far as spiderwire with better strength.

Oneshot7 turned me on to Power Pro..

Positives...which are many

A.Casting..not as far as mono..but not bad...all depends on the lure..I'm happy with it

B. Very small diameter

C. No memory..which is great for fishing the curly tail rubber worms..where mono will twist and kink fast.

D. Strong..BUT you must use the palamar knot with it..I use the 20 pound pro..It can still break so set your drag accordlingly..It's muuch stronger than mono though

E. The green line will turn whiteish after a while but does not seem to effect my strikes..

F Works great in baitcasters or open faced spinning tackle..

G. If you are putting this on a baitcaster...make sure you know your reel and drag well..backlashes are nearly impossilbe to fix..and Power Pro aint cheap..

Summary..I've tried nearly all the braids..and this is my favorite by far..
I use 12 pound Trilene Xl for the other stuff..I fish heavy deep Florida hydrilla .



I use Power Pro for worming , flipping , pitching and jigging...and shiners

I use Trilene XL mono for everything else..spinning, cranking ,

i use strickly open face spinning. i do alot of white and largemouth fishing on truman lake here in missouri. when i get down on the dam on truman i need something that can handle the huge current, while they are letting thousands of gallons out, with the retrieve and still give me the sensitivity i like. sounds like the PowerPro may be the way to go.

will the improved clinch knot still hold on the powerpro. that is mainly what i use.

no sir..DO NOT used improved clinch..for some reason that knot does not work..I learned the hard way..You should have no problem with it on spincasters.the Palamar knot is very easy to tie..

BUT to be honest with ya..I'm mostly a spinning man myself..If it wasn't for thick vegetation and fishing rubber worms..I would buy nothing but mono...I love spinnning alot more than baitcasters...Braid does not cast as far as mono..I don't want to mislead ya...I mostly use it because it has ZERO memory when worm fishing..and it's great for flipping when fish are green at the boat and you need to pull them out of the cat tails.

Here's some 20 pound Power Pro..as you can see ..the diameter is 6 pound test.


you cna't break this stuff with your teeth or hands ..I bring a pair of wire cutters with me.LOL

Thanks man. i may have to try some out. its only money.lol. Knots are not that hard to learn. my grandfather was a tournament bass fisherman until they decide to take custody of me. so i learned some of the old school ways of fishing. like my got to lure is still a black and chartruese roadrunner. it may not be what everyone else is catching them on but it still works. ha ha

braid is horrible for using crankbaits it digs in the spool and it makes loops for cranking mono is the best
