Default Motor placement ?

Here's the low-down . I have a 14' jon with a 5hp motor . At idle speed , the motor pushes the boat too fast . Since a trolling motor isn't in the budget right now , I figured I'd use a pole to creep up on the carp . The problem is that the motor is in the way . Will I have a hard time controlling my boat if I "skew" the engine to one side ? That would make poling the boat alot easier . Thanks for the input .

I would never do that my friend...There's a real good chance you would tip the boat When I fished for carp..I'd use the paddle carefullly..and then make long cast.

With a 5hp motor you have no chance of tipping the boat. Only problem is steering will be a bit akward to keep the thing going straight.
