Default Please ID this fish!!

Gang,

I was fishiing off the dock with my 4 yr old son for bluegills, pumpkinseeds and rock bass when he hooked this fish. It was only 6-7 inches long and I lip-landed it like a bass (I can't do that with the average sunfish he catches as the mouths are tiny).

It's built like a bass and has pumpkinseed markings on it's face. It has bizarre markings... notice the white edged fins. Any insight? We called it the 'Weirdo"

It's a green sunfish...

Google 'em... If it was as big as you said it's a BIG one...Most are quite small...

Thier mouth is quite a bit bigger than a bluegill or pumpkinseed, but they tend to be quite a small fish..

What lake did you catch it in..?? I haven't caught any inNY's Finger Lakes, but they are very common in the Tioga County PA reservoirs, the Hammond and Cowanesque dams...
