lost the lunker...story inside

Went out fishing tonight after I got home.I started off running a black worm along the bottom and caught a 2 pounder doing this.I switched to a watermelon tube and then caught 3 more small bass. Took a break and caught about 10 crappie for supper on minnows and went back to the bass for the last half hour.
I was throwing out the same watermelon tube and saw some movement of fish moving in close to the bank. I casted out towards the bank and WHAM! Not 5 seconds after my bait hit the water the surface blew up.The big bass ran me into some weeds and shook my hook and got me tangled in a log.Well as luck would have it the rest of my tubes were back in the truck.
I decided to throw out a BooYah yellow spinnerbait to the same spot.Once again the big boy hit it as soon as the lure hit the water.I fought him all the way to the boat and my buddy heard my excitement as I saw the fish.My excitment quickly turned to a sad, cussing attitude as the line snappedwhen the fish was a foot or 2 from the boat.
My biggest bass to date was 6 lbs. and was caught in this exact same spot.This bass today looked like it could have ate my 6 pounder.My partner thought he was a 10 pounder plus which is just HUGE for the waters I fish, I don't like to guess the weight on him b/c I am just not for sure.
One more thing, this Gamma line I have been using is nothing but junk.It casts great, but the strengh of it is terrible.I will be going to get some new line tomorrow and filling up my Pflueger with it.

IBH, man that is too bad, i like the power pro also for braid but my favorite mono is berkley big game in green, pound test for pound test, i haven't found anything i like better, it is a "stiff line" but the abrassion resistance is unbelieveable, i caught one over 9 once that was sawing my line on the other side of some standing timber, for what seemed like 10 minutes, probably more like 30 seconds, to older guys come up and said well you can hang that one up, i switched the TM to high 24, got on the other side of the junk and pulled out a beautiful 9+ pounder, my line looked like yarn but held up like a steal cable, it may not be the best choice for clearer water, but for what i need i love it, but i know a bunch of folks that hate it[&:]

Sorry to hear that...My son and I have been broken off a few times this year as well.
Wemade 2 changes...
When we are anticipating big fish {Such as shiner fishing}
1. We use our spinning tackle..the drags on spinning reels are 2nd to none.
2. Diffently on braided line use that Palomar knot.
On momo the prosreport that the improved clinch knot strenghthens the tensile strengh about 75% ,,maybe so,,BUT not on braid. On braid it actually weakens the line. I can tie an improved clinch knot on my 20 pound Power Pro and break it bare handed. I can't with a Palamar Knot.
I still use Improved Clinch on mono.

Are you leaving your rods in a rod locker in your boat? If so that will break down line. We always put new line on for tournaments but we won't leave them in the lockers, it gets really warm, ok hot in there and we have found we don't break off if we just leave them on the deck instead of the locker. Others that fish our club have found the same thing.
My take on line, we use yo-zuri and cajun red, love the way the red comes of the reel. We don't use any braided line at all.

i really like that cajun red line - but wal mat here has some great deals on yo zuri hybrid, so ive been using it. sounds like you were pulling that fish off its bed - get back out there asap.

I bought some stren from a Mom & pop general store that was rotten. It kept breaking at theloop and after the same thing happening 3 x I did a pull test on it and it broke at the loop with very little tension and it cost me.The best line you can buy is at walmart where there inventory is always moving and being restocked. Cheque your line.
