So me and my buddy decided to hit the river today and see if we could hook into some nice trout and well we skunked on the trout. BUT! Now i have never heard of anyone doin this on this river and let alone with a fly rod but between me and my buddy we were able to catch 5 suckers while nymphing. They all hit the same fly too, a Prince Nymph. But we think we were catching soo many of them because we think they are spawning cause of the colors on them (which i never knew they got that colorful) plus a couple females we caught started lettin some eggs go on us. But i definitely discovered one of the reasons they arent considered a game fish. THEY DONT FIGHT. Its like your just haulin in a log that your lure hooked to. Except for the smallest one of the day he gave me a good fight, i fought him for about 10mins, took a couple runs on me.

That is really neat. What kind of suckers are they..I know there are a few different species. I used to fish exclusively for the Northern White Suckers.
They are great eatting.

Chuck... I have no idead what species they are all i know is ive caught them before and never seen them that color before and kinda glade to catch them cause now i can say ive caught a sucker in spawning colors.
Childers....I think the main reason we were gettin them is cause we were fishing the nymphs right on bottom so we were puttin right in front of their faces.

Well, I've only caught a few suckers (White's) and they've fought hard. I was fishing for smallies using a Sluggo when he hit (the first one) and I thought I caught a new world record bass [8D]Must just be the differnces in the area?
