Who's ready for the '07 tournament

Its time to sign up for the 2007 HNI bass tournament. This year it has a twist. Sign up will be until January 31'st.

Fishing will begin on February 1st, and last until June 30th. Enter all the fish you can. On July 1st (or around about), I will tally up all the picture entries, and count everyones 2 biggest fish (by weight).

There will be a north and south bracket (will figure out the definition of north and south before feb 1st). The top 4 of each bracket (based upon those 2 biggest fish per user), will be seeded 1 - 4. 1 will face 4. 2 will face 3.

You have one month to fish your bracket (august). The biggest two bass count again. The winner will go on to face the winner of the 2 vs 3 bracket. Again, a whole month to fish (September).

In October (when the biggest fish are fattening up in the north), the winner of the north bracket will face the winner of the south bracket (where most of the fish are still in an offshore pattern) for the title of best bass fisherman on HNI.

Largemouth, smallmouth, spotted bass are permitted. All entriest must include a picture. You do NOT need to be in the picture, but if your not, the fish must be laying on a measuring board/stick/tape in the picture, and your user name must be in the picture somehow (recommended that you bring a peice of paper/marker) . During the tournament play (august, september, october) the date must be in the picture - be a timestamp, or writing the date on a small dry erase/chalkboard/peice of paper).

Any other questions?

shoot I just realized I have a lot of fishing to do in june since things around here dont unthaw until about early-mid may. Can you extend the regular season into middle of july since the other part of the tourny doesnt start until august?

RE: Who's ready for the '07 tournament

i dont see any problems with it going into july. I set the cut off on June because I'll be moving then and wont have computer access for a week or two, but Chuck can fill in if he wants with the weight tabs.

only if you don't make it to rough on us with them pickwick brownies;), BTW i'm on the other side of the state where the green fish are the thing, guntersville is 3.5 miles out my backdoorits rough but somebody has to do it

here is a little tidbit of how tough the fishing has been

Day Two Standings

Todd Lee of Grove, Okla., landed two lunkers that helped him take the Day 2 lead of the ESPN Outdoors Bassmaster Series Championship.GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. — Todd Lee finished taking length and girth measurements, took one last look at his monstrous 10-pound, 15-ounce largemouth just before it was going into the release tank and then had a simple request.
"Let me give it a kiss," he said, planting one on the big female's top lip and handing it back to go in the tank. Lee's "smaller" bass weighed 9-14 and already was in the release boat.
Who could argue with a little smooch for what very well could be Lee's ticket to the Bassmaster Classic?
The 31-year-old from Grove, Okla., wowed the crowd Friday in the ESPN Outdoors Bassmaster Series with five bass weighing 31 pounds, 3 ounces for a two-day total of 44-10. That vaulted him into the lead going into Saturday's final round, which features the top 12 boaters and non-boaters fishing for the title.

My friend,
This is completely Josh's tournament 100%. I'm ok with what ever you guys want to do. Josh wil be a tough competitor because he is a semi pro . That will push the rest of us to fish seriously. I know it did me last year. I caught alot more hawgs last year because of Josh. I also fished twice as much. I lost some monsters last year and I will be trying to correct those mistakes this year.
Good luck and be safe.

Umm question
Is there going to be a largemouth to smallmouth conversion because there is no such thing as a 10 lb smallmouth?

Josh, If I'm in the picture with the fish do I need any measurements or weights? Or is it based on an honor system? If I understand the rules right you need some sort of measuring device if you are not in the pics. But if you are in the pictures you don't need a measurement. Just the picture and weight. Is this correct. My lake won't thaw until mid march so I just wanted to get the rules straight now. Sorry for the question, I was just a little confused on how to post the pictures and weight. By the way be prepared, because I will come out of the northern division. LOL! had to throw in a little trash talk. This will be my first fishing contest on huntingnet, but after seeing your pictures Josh I want to come fish with you sometime.;) I've fished in Texas many times and as far as I'm concerned there is no better place around to catch big bass.

RE: Who's ready for the '07 tournament

Yes, if you are in the picture, no measurements required, just a scale weight in your entry post. Its easier to tell the size of the fish when your holding it. Not saying anyone would do it, but you can make a 18" bass look 8 lbs if you get far enough away from it. By taking the photo on a measurig device (I put a 3' yard stick in my boat) it makes it easier for those of us who fish alone. The key here is not over handle the fish trying tog et yourself in the picture if your fishing alone.

I was thinking about getting trophy's made for the north and south winner. And possibly even collecting a pool of $10 per contestant, and getting a replica mount done of the biggest fish caught by the winner for the entire tournament. It would sort of be like the "lunker pot". Completely up to you guys though. If we decide to go with this route, I'd recommend we get length and girth measurements of all fish though.

Chris, I just so happen to live about 20 minutes from Choke Canyon Reservoir. Last year I had 3 stringers OVER 35 lbs. (5 bass). 3 bass over 10 lbs, and 78 over 5 lbs.
I will be moving back to Martinsburg, WV in the summer, so maybe we can get onto some fall bass at Sleepy Creek Lake.

I'll give a few more days to see if anyone else wants to sign up. We can end the first round in July if you guys want. Like a real tournament, no seperation for smallmouth/largemouth, since your TWO BIGGEST fish count, and theres a north/south bracket.

Sounds good Josh I would def. like to hook up sometime and do a little fishing. I didn't realize you was a fellow west virginian. Thats pretty cool. I grew up in Huntington, WV and lived there my whole life until I moved to IL 3 years ago. Anyway keep in touch and I look forward to this contest. To bad I can't fish for at least another month.

Josh, if its not too late sign me up. I'll be leaving montana for my annual fishing trip with my brother in fla. on may 25 for 2 weeks. Thats all the bass fishing I can really do is when I'm down there but he has a Bass Tracker and we're fishing farm 13 in fellsmere before we go to the Monkey box at Lake Ockachobee. We're in some big bass country but the weather is so dang hot and humid, but thats all we do for about 10 days is fish hard and long.
