Fishing Update In Your Area.

Fellows,
1. Are you just hunting or hunting and fishing?

2. What are you fishing for?

3. How are you doing?

I am fishing for crappie as well as hunting. It's been a little slow and crappie where I fish have to be at least 10 inches. Many are 9 1/2 . I did manage to get 2 nice meals of them for the freezer though. I love using light tackle and my favorite reel is the C 101 Garcia open faced spinning reel with 6 pound Trilene clear. I use live minnows and hal flies. { A jig} Nothing over 13 inches yet.
During the minnow fishing I've caught many channel cats and a few nice bass. I only keep the crappie.
God bless,
C7

Catfish are staying pretty deep, and the bream and crappie are staying shallow, where I'm at.

Thanks for asking,
My friend Strut in Missouri has been going through a lot of trials .His wife had just had a liver transplant and was having some difficulties so I opted to stay in Florida this year. So far I haven't gotten anything. I had 2 opportunities for a shot in Florida with a bow but blew both opportujties. I've sat 5 times in a tree for general gun but haven't seen anything. Our general gun goes through Jan.6th .I get 2 more weeks off in Dec. so I will hunt hard then. Until that time comes I may shoot a few squirrels and catch a few more crappie.

I hope your hunting and fishing season goes good .;)

I've only been hunting, but I am doing well. Waiting for the ice to hit the lakes, then we can get some fishing in! ;)

Good luck all; be safe!

I love our crappie..for you new fellers ..
Crappie can have a mushy like texture so if ya want a 5 star recipe to firm them up and make them tasty .here it is.

1.Soak your thawed out crappie / speck fillets covered in buttermilk OVER NIGHT

2. Take fish directly from buttermilk and dredge them through a mixture of 1/4 cornmeal and3/4 white flour and generouis aount of salt and pepper.

3. Carefully put ina 5/8th inch hot oil that is in a cast iron skillet.

4. When stiff and golden brown carefully flip over.

5. When that side is golden brown let fillets drain on paper towels.

I don't know how but your crappie are now firmed up real good and the taste is spectaculiar. There are never any left overs.

Serve with..
baked beans onions, molasses with crispy slab bacon on top
cole slaw
sweet tea
apple pie.

:):)Good Stuff man

Thanks,
There are actually two different species of crappie..the White Crappie and the Black Crappie. This one happens ot be the White Crappie. Thanks, they are the best tasting freshwater fish IMHO in Florida lakes. I buttermilk batter them up and they are 5 STAR.

You got it. We do the same, except we have Black crappie. I like getting them fresh off the ice and eating them up. Everything taste better from ice fishing. I don't know if it is because the temperature of the water, or psycological? :D

Chuck7 12-05-2006 10:27 AM

RE: Fishing Update In Your Area.

We have both down here. It's been my expereince tha tthe black crappie are a little bigger than the whites. I learned the recipe from a man from upstate New York. I can't beieve how drastically the texture and taste changes.

I tried it on bass and bluegills but it didn't have nearly the effect that it has on crappie.

How can you call yourself an American angler if you haven't caught a walleye in your entire life.

Chuck, how do you catch your carp? We have alot and they are pushing around 30 pounds. They would put up a heck of a fight.

Also, do you guys have Pike in FL? I noticed they weren't on your list and they are fighters! :D

OK The European Carp { Orange colored carp} was luckily caught on night crawlers in Maryland. I used ot make my own dough balls but forgot the recipe. In Florida we have Grass Carp..I only caught one and it was 10 pounds in a cast net.

No, we don't have Northern Pike in Florida. WE do have Chiain Pickerals. Floridians call them Jacks. They treat them like trash fish. Not me.;)
They are fine eatting if you can deal with the bones. I caught many pickerals off spinner baits { Rooster Tails} in Virginia . I've ever caught a pike. Before I die I'd love to catch a salmon, a pike, a musky and a waleye.;)

I'd love to take ya on some pike fishing adventures... I have yet to catch myself a muski yet. Gotta get up to Canada for those.

No ice fishing yet for me and my season is at least 2 weeks late now as compared with other years. I had a nice deer season and got my Vt buck and a cow elk in Colorado to help fill the freezer. Now all I need is 3 1/2months of hard water fishing to make my year almost complete. The gear is ready now for some cooperation from Mother Nature.
