Nice catch!
Side note:
So I'm watching IRON CHEF last night
(everybody just keep it to yourself[8D], I'm tired of re-runs)
and the secret ingredient was Tilapia, to which
all the learned food people commented how this
was a "bland" or "flavorless" fish.(?) Now I've eaten
quite a bit of tilapia in resturants and always liked it.
Does this make me fish-ignorant?
Again, nice fish. And a possible World Record to boot

God bless & good fish'n

Great catch, Congrats!!!!
My wife an I go through a lot of Tilapia. We actually have to go buy ours, but it still tastes great. And one of the reasons I like it so much is the fact that it doesn't have a strong fish taste.

From what I understand alot of it is farm raised,
to me another plus for not putting a drain on
natural resources. Of course, this probably has
it's own down side. It's always give and take.
I've heard there are places here in TX where tilapia
are taken by bow-fishing which is legal since they're
not a native species/game fish.

Sorry to hear about that. But I'm sure you won't make that mistake twice. And I know how it feels. When I was 18 I caught a black Crappie that beat the Illininois state record by 5oz. And just like you, that fish was filleted before I found out. LOL Gotta laugh about it I guess.

Yeah...they don't make the record stuff easy.I 'm sure lots of folks out there have broken records and didn't even know about it. My lure was the good ole faithful Rooster Tail White
NOte the Rooster Tails ...they are always on the top tray ready for action.

that sure is a nice one, i sure wouldnt mind catchin some of those myself some darn good eatin, its cheap at the market when I go shopping i usually buy 2 dozen fillets at a time. we have them here in our waters just they are hard to catch most guys who catch them are either bowfishing or carp fishing with corn. what did you catch yours on?
edit: aw nevermind read the rest of the posts, wow kinda strange it went for a roostertail but then again everything goes for a roostertail.
out here the state record i believe is around 3 lbs
