RE: Help Me With Fly Fishing...?
That kit is a great idea Guss. I looked and cabelas had the rod, reel, line, and video. All for $90.00. Prestige model in case your interested RR.
Jimmy S, I think sinking lines are fine and definately have thier application but they may be slightly harder to cast and are not as universally applicable as floating line. I'm surprised to hear you've never used floating line. Does that mean you've never fished to rising trout? If so, we need to go fishing sometime. :D:D Take care |
RE: Help Me With Fly Fishing...?
As far as sink tips go I would have to agree with HB, have there place butnot the way to start. They are hard to castandsomeone just starting out dosnt need that. I have beenflyfishing since I was 6 and I just bought my first sink tip 2 years ago. (I amnow 10 years old so I have been fishing for 4 years, no just kidding I am 23)
I dont know if this will help, I started out with a 8.5ft 5wtcortland combo and a cortland line, VARY INEXPENSIVE. AndI used that basic combo for years, that is until I go a job and spent all my cash on fishing stuff. |

RE: Help Me With Fly Fishing...?
Here I like to use a seven wieght only because alot of the water has fish
that very in size. ( Atlantics ) I like the wieght foward floating line the best and alot of practice. I once used to practice on a small brookie and that little bugger would hit the fly and I'd miss. I would go back there day after day until I became quick enough to catch him. I would let it go so I could go back the next day and try it again. For bass I like the poppers or a deer hair mouse and both worked pretty good on them. Good Luck!! |
RE: Help Me With Fly Fishing...?
I started with arod reel flies combo that was 40 dollars and it was just fine so if you don't know wether you'll like it or not I'd start with something very cheap. I don't even know what type of line or wieght of rod I haveso I can't help you there. But don't spend too much because if you end up really liking it you can buy a more expensive things.
