I have a bad feeling it wont be accepted. This is the biggest record in fishing - it must have no variables or missing factors. The length and girth measurements are definitly important here.

I definitly think its over 22.4, but I would be shocked if its recognized.

Kind of like the current world record?

There's the fact that the fish was foul-hooked. That it wasn't weighed on a certified scale. And, ultimately, that it was released.
It won't become the world record, just because it was foul hooked.

Charlie, the rules state that the fish can not intentionally be foul hooked? How would you like to be the one to interpret that? I think unless you are snagging with a weighted treble hook it is ok.

This whole story is boosheut and I hope the guy doesn't get it just because of two reasons. Reason 1). LOOK at that pic. That braindead MORON probably killed that fish because holding ANY bass over 8#s solely by the lower jaw can possibly dislocate the jaw. ESPECIALLY fish in the teens plus. This sow is over 20!!! [:@][:'(]
And secondly, if the IGFA accepts this fish because it was "accidentally" foul hooked then they just shot themselves in the foot, ruined their own credibility and just opened the FLOODGATES for and likewise put a DEATH WARRANT on evey single fishin CA that is over 20#s!!!

Whether the fish is certified or not that is one helluva fish. I cannot believe this guy released a fish like that. If it had been me I would have put the fish in an areated tank to keep it alive. I then would have contacted someone to have it certified then my next call would have been to Johnny Morris of Bass Pro to tell him to bring his best tanker truck and a million dollar check.

I saw the actual video footage on ESPN this morning and the pic does not do this fish near the justice the video did. What a fish !!! WOW !!!
