RE: Ice thickness?

Well last friday a lot of lakes had 9" on them. But with these upper 30's-mid 40's days....ugh...I'm screwed.

I think I might go late archery hunting to try out my new bow case.

The lake that I fish was up to 8" but last I checked it was at 6" and decreasing quickly. I am going to head out again this weekend and hope that it is still thick enough. However if this weather keeps up I will definetly be putting away the poles and pulling out the bow again!

You might want to check to make sure that the lake you plan on fishing on doesn't have any generators,, these can be dangerous for beginners who arn't familiar with the lake,.. If there arn't any generators you should be good at 6" for sure,

RE: Ice thickness?

ORIGINAL: BIGSCRAPE

Personally I feel comfortable with this: 2.5-3.5" of clear ice to walk around and fish from a lawn chair, 4-6" of clear ice for the wheeler and portable shack, 8" for the big shack and usually 12-14" for the truck (Ranger 4x4).

The biggest mistake made during early season is when someone ASSUMES that the ice thisckness is consistent. 4" can turn into 1" within 10'.

If you're not sure STAY HOME!!!!
good to go here......where everyone is saying you need so much for a snomachine umm hello the is way less lb/sq ft on a snomachine than a 200 lb man in size 10 boots think about it.

it was 70 degrees in iowa today. we are never going to get on the ice if this weather doesn't cool way down and make some good ice. I have heard of some people around out on the ice but not me!!!! it has been way too warm if you ask me.
