RE: Everyone done fishin for the year?

Done are you kidding.
The salmon are just starting to run in the rivers & the trout that follow them. Heck I fish year arround as long as I can find open water to fish in or ice to fish through.

Nah...My son and I are gone tomorrow. The bass will be schooling soon and that will be fun. There will be a break between archery and firearm and the crappie will be hitting. Maybe even some sunshine bass/ hybred white bass.

Never done fishing, just in a slow time of year. The rod is still in the jeep. Once grouse season gets going I hit the river alittle more, float down and hunt on the way back to the car, 2 miles on the nose. Serf and terf

no of course i'm not done. in the next couple of weeks i'm gonna try my luck with some largemouths and blue gill. it's still pretty warm here in florida so they shouldn't be too screwed up right now.

Heck no I'm not done. I've been waiting all summer for this time of year to come. Some good fishing ahead. October 15th I'll probably be done though (opening day of bow). Back on the water after I tag out ;)

RE: Everyone done fishin for the year?

Had a problem with my bass boat and it is in the shop. I guess it is time to pull the dock and lift and start to get the hunting stuff together. I always hate this transition time because there is so much to do around here and deer camp to get ready for the hunt. I ice fish almost every day starting mid Dec so I certainly am not done fishing.

No Way,Steelhead are gonna be running up the rivers any time now!!! Will be hitting them hard till May.When the rivers freeze it's time to hit the power plants on the big lake due to warm water discharges, then it starts all over with crappie and walleye in the spring!!!

I'll keep chasing bass and muskies until November. I throw flies at trout all winter long. Born on the mountain, raised in a cave. Fishing and hunting is all I crave!

If the water ever freezes here the world has come to an end! I fish year round for bass, bream, catfish, and crappie.

Not yet, Iusually hang the rod up and put the boat away after the opening weekend of gun season for moose on october 8th. We generaly get like to get out oncemore during this long weekend in between moose hunting. The walleye fishing up here is usually awesome this time of year

HECK NO!!!! How dare there be such a phrase!!! My pole is always in my Jeep!! The trout fishing will finally start to pick back up here soon, was real slow during the summer months and they taste like crap anyway then. When the lakes start to freeze over, my auger and sled will be kept in my Jeep until the lakes thaw again. Never done fishing!!

Well, fer us in colorado, the good fishin is finally here. it is a little tough early season but late summer is real good. I did well at chambers lake the other week, the rainbows are bitin and theyre meat is red. The Kokeny are in season and lake grandby is doin well too. Lock vale lake produced some nice cuts and brookies. So, no, the fishin aint over! EJ

RE: Everyone done fishin for the year?

Yea I am pretty much done. This year I have caught (me and my fishing partner) around 110 bream, 250 crappie, and 400 bass. I have plenty of fish in the freezer and now it's time to concentrate on hunting. I hunt on the river quite a bit so I may squeeze in a half day of fishing here or there but for the most part I am done.

No way fishing is just getting better here. Here is a picture from the last Cat we put in the boat. At one point I put 19 cats in a row in the boat over 14lbs. All of them were released. The Red River of the North is Hot Hot Hot.

bigbuckOO 09-15-2005 12:52 AM

RE: Everyone done fishin for the year?

Im close to done, but not quite yet. The King Salmon are just starting to work their way into the harbors off of Lake Michigan and i will make a few trips up to try my luck from shore. I typically start around midnight and fish until daybreak using glow in the dark spoons. Nothing quite like fighting a fall run Chinook.

FLW Everstart series bass tournament is on day 2 today. Kind of rainy but the wind is down so they should do well. My boat is still in the shop so I can't even go to watch. Some pros are fishing just off my beach and they are catching them. Ahhhhh the sounds of 168 boats blasting up the lake at dawn really does it.

HECK NO!!! this is monster muskie time. Not to mention big pike coming up here very shortly. The fleet is coming into the shallows to refuel after long days spent deep chasing and eatingwhat unlucky fish happens to swim by.

RE: Everyone done fishin for the year?

That sucks I really feel bad for you honestly you have no idea what you're missing. the best way I can describe how a northern fights, even the littleones, is imagine a rabid pit bull on speed getting stuck in the rear with a cattle prod then hooking it in the mouth and trying to fight it with fishing gear. They just go crazy. Now muskies I would say asmallmouth orlargemouth bass on stereroids with the ability to make 4-6 foot jumps out of the water a number of times. You just can't imagine the feeling of hooking into a 20-40+ pound 40-50+ inch freshwater fish and seeing them launch themselves out of the water trying to throw the hooks and then just bulldogging straight down andcoming up and doing it again a number of times. They are the two greatest freshwater fish IMO. You just have to try them out sometime. You won't be sorry.

Brown fish are the main fish near me. I live on the west side of the island facing the New York shore. The broad lake is cold and deep with lots of trout and salmon in the deep water and smallies all along the rocky shore. Lots of 4 pounders hitting right now. I just got my boat out of the shop yesterday and hopefully will get to water test it today and do a little catch and release. The pros in the FLW Everstart series really cleaned up using chartreuse and white spinner baits in 10-15 feet of water. Lots of other guys did well in 20-30 feet using drop shot or Carolina rigs. The winners all brought in 18-21 pound bags every day and most were smallies.

This lake is usually one of the favorites on both the Bass and FLW tours because it is pretty easy to get a limit of 3-4 pound fish. In addition, lots of clubs and federations from out of state hold their tourneys here. The lake is about 120 miles long and chuck full of nice healthy largies and smallies. We seldom catch largemouth above 6 pounds and small mouth above 5 but there are tons of 4 pound fish everywhere. In the spring it is quite common to have 50-100 fish days. The pros come here and you hear them at weigh in say they limited on 5 fish in the first 15- 30 minutes then it was cull time. Anyone who gets a chance to fish north should give it a try. I do some snorkeling at my house and always see some real toads out off the end of the dock. Today was a sad day because I put my boat away for the season and pulled the dock and lift. Bow hunting starts next weekend and I need to get all the stuff done around here so I can go to camp.

Ill probably get out for bass one or two more times this year. I'm done tourney fishing for the year, now im just looking for more sponsors over the off season. we finsished 20 something in points after only fishing 3 of 6 tourneys..we're hoping to make the BWSTA classic next year. overall, a good year, i learned alot about tournament fishing. Taught me a lot about being prepared, and making sure you dont have any problems come tourney day.

Yes and no. I am probably done with regular stream fishing but if it gets cold enough soon enough I will be out on the ice before the new year.

You should try flat fish (bluegills, sunnies and crappie). Lots of action and a real blast on light tackle.Bomoseen, St Catherine and Hortonia are great down closer to you. Northern Champlain is my place for winter fun every day.

Yep, all 3 are good producers. For lakers we usually hit Champlain anywhere from Arnolds Bay up to Button Bay. Have been messing around on Lake George over in New York also. Took some pretty good ones last year.

I used to go steelheading in NY all winter and tip up fish and jig for lakers in Champlain. Started to fish for flats and now that is all I do. Lots of fun.
