surprized nobody uses a 357 mag.
I have a 357 magnum it was my home defender untill I got my 45. my biggest problem with a 357 would be the chance of over penetration. a good hollowpoint in 40S&W or 45 acp like winchester silver tips or SXT's (which used to be called black talons) have great expansion and shouldnt over penetrate.

I"d actually think youd have less chance of penetration with a 110-125 high speed 357 than with any 45 round. Sure the good 45 rounds open some, but I've always seen them really penetrate. I've never had a deer to stop a 45 round of any type where as with a light 125 HP the bullet has stopped on the off side. Just my experiences

heres a link to a article i think you may want to read before you go bashing my choice of a 45 acp, somebody said they think the 45 acp is overated thats why they like a 40 smith better somebody else stated that 40 smiths ballistics are close to the 45 acp, which in the books it is, but in a real situation i feel the 40 wont perform as good as a 45. heres the link enjoy http://www.chucktaylorasaa.com/stoppingpower.html

i have a mossberg HomeDefender (9shot+1) beside my bed 00buck always loaded, a S&W .357 revolver on my desk remington hollow points always loaded, and a .40 glock in my tactical gear that hangs at the foot of my bed (1-17rd+1 in gun, 1-15rd xtra x/ IQamunition). Any direction i move there ass is gettin hit with something. Sad thing is i live in a good neighborhood; but i would rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it. PEACE!

Here is a couple of mine. I don't have a picture of my S&W 586 .357mag with a 6" barrel, but that is what I usually have under my bed. I keep it loaded with some 140gr Hornady XTPs. The Ruger is a P89D and I don't think it is ugly. Though not all ruger pistols are attractive. The Sig is a P 232ss .380 and that is what I carry because it is easy to conceal.

I don't keep it under the bed but it is close. I keep my Ruger P97 in .45 acp. Before I got that I used a Winchester 1300 Defender in 12 ga.

I dont keep mine under the bed either lol mines close by loaded with 185 grain winchester silvertip hollow points, one in the pipe and 10 in the mag safety off and ready to go, its DAO so no real need to have the safety engaged.

Buy some of the "FRANGIBLE" rounds from federal. They are carried by the US AIRLINE MARSHALLS and basically desintegrate upon anything they impact including fatal wounding the first perp they hit.
