For those of you out there looking for a dependable medium to long range rifle here are the facts:
I recently tested the Winchester Model 70 Super Shadow WSM (Win. Short Mag.) in the .270 and .300 calibers. These were the results compared to the stendard springfield .30-.06 caliber.
First, the ammo:
For this test I decided to go with two types of rounds in the WSM series. For this review we'll stick with the .270 results
I started with the 140 gr. Supreme® AccuBond™ CT® if you want the stats on this round click on the link (I hope it works).
As far as this ammo goes, it preformed better than factory specs. The only drawback to this type of ammo was availability. I had to order it from the factory, no one in my are carries it. It would take me too long to get into all of the details of the test here so let me just give you the end results...two three inch 6 round groupings at 1300 yards. The target was double 3/8" plywood and the rounds blew through it like gowing through butter.
The second round tested from this weapon was the 130 gr. Supreme® Ballistic Silvertip® I was even more impressed with this round. First was the fact that I could pick up a box at my local Wal-Mart. The end results: two 3" 6 round groupings at a woping range of 1700 yards. Same type of target backing and with the same results as the preivious ammo, like a knife through butter.
Now, as far as the rifles preformance...Hands down the sweetest off the rack non-modified rifle I have fired to date. I would have absolutly no problem with carring this weapon on missions with me. As far as hunting goes...Although many of you will never get to take a shot at your prefered game animal at ranges exceding 200 yds...this is a rifle that will have the takedown power over those longer ranges that the .30-.06 just can't maintain.
And remember: "If you hit the RIGHT mark on the first shot....one round is all you need!"
If you would like complete details on these test's shoot me an e-mail and I'll get it to you as soon as I can...Happy hunting

I like the looks of the new WSM's. Nice to hear someone having a positive experience with them.
Will they work in a stand, or are they only for stalkers?

lmao RLB I was thinkin the EXACT same thing. If this "sniper" is whackin snuff cans @ 1700yds with a boxstock Winnie... the military is looking for him and the Olympic team needs him.
The rifles are great no doubt, good lil value for the money. I just bought my brother-in-law a Super Shadow in 300WSM as a going away present. When he returns from Iraq in 2 years hopefully he will be able to put it too good use.
Hey perhaps he should take it with him since they are that good, maybe he can hit Bin Laden between the eyes from 2k meters?
