Darby, what kind of problems are they having? I keep hearing people say problems, but really won't elaborate.

All I can do is base my what I think on my own experience. For some reason these forums, can really boast a product or really spead total crap about a product. Alot of times, I see these people has never tried out the product.

But in this case, I am concerned about Hunter338's problem. The VariXIII and VXIII are two different designs. After talking to some length to leupold techs, the VXIII are 3 piece designs tube changed from a single piece that was hard to build. the older variXII was three peice too. It was always believed that the single piece tube was more durable on hard recoilers like 416 rigby or 375 HH. After talking to Leupold, they claim totally different, that the new design is every bit as tough as the old design. They claim they only improved things with the clarity, and focus adjust, etc. but what are they going to say. I believe the bottom line is they cost cutted. We all do it. And you better do it to survive in this global economy. The plan is to cost cut by changing manufacting process's without affecting the quality and in some instances, improve it. I just hope they did improve it. Only time will tell. I don't have any of the new VX scopes. I still plan on trading around for the older Vari X styles for a while at least.

You mean the new VXIII are a 3pc tube when the VAri-xIII was a one piece. If it is indeed a 3 pcs tube my money is going to Zeiss or Swarovski from now on . I think Hunter338 never had a VXIII to start with if you ask me... Going back to a Nikon Buckmaster or a Redfield..Give me a break.

Call the Leupold tech and ask him. I already bugged them to death about the construction and they really don't want to give up the details. You have to really dig to get the information. Now I could be wrong.

As far as the specific problems he had. I don't know at this point.
I will have to ask him about it, next time I see him. I will put a post
up when I find out. I do remember him buying a tasco titan, because he wouldn't buy another leopold again. Beleive it or not, the
first time he fired the tasco on his .338, the crosshairs turned on him.
He thought he didn't tighten the rings so he adjusted that, fired again
same thing. He sent it back for warranty repair and it has worked fine
since. He has bad luck with trucks and scopes. I have had bad luck with fishing rods and women. ha ha
Cheers

Oh I am not going to call him I believe you. I won't buy another Leupold again, they are great scopes but this is just cost cutting. I looked up their comparism chart to look at differences between the models and not one thing specified about 1 or 3pc construction which leads me to believe they are 3 pc in light of in the past they always specified 1 pc construction for their vari-xIII.

There are three guys at my gun club that shoot different variations of Browing A bolts chambered in 338 win mag and use them on deer in my home state . They all use Tasco scopes and shoot a lot and don't see any reason to change scopes..

No, I am not saying you don't believe me, I am saying people ought to call and find out the facts. The more people that call, the more we would know. They had enough of me calling. I have been trying to find out the real deal for a while.

BC. That fine Leupold of mine wont adjust left to right ,or up and down. The crosshairs are cantered to the left of center. Sent it back in to get fixed. I did ask Leupold why this happened and they told me that they didnt know as of yesterday but they would fix it and send it back to me free of charge. But let me ask you this. How can you fix something that you dont know what is wroung with it?

Oldelk.

Dont knock something that works. I only paid $230 for my Buckmaster scope and have never had a problem one with it. As far as the Redfield Scopes are concerned I would take a old RF over anyone of your high doller scopes ANYDAY. But once again I have never had a problem with any Redfield scope that I own.

It is a sad day when a $230 scope will outlast a fine fancy Leupold now isnt it..
