I paid $ 489 plus tax, I will say that the stock is a real nice piece of wood. Why not have your 06 barrel reamed for the Whelen Should be cheaper than rebarreling. Here's their website http://www.gricewholesale.com , there is a link for the 7600 and for the special run of the 700 CDL.

Well I had a 760 in 30-06 and I had it rebored to make accomidations for the 35 whelen, and I have had no problems with it at all. It cost me 150 dollars and I also had the barrel length shortened to 20''. It is a real fine shooter, I can print 1.5'' groups with it at 100 yards.

Thanks Thndrchiker, That doesn't sound like to bad a price. I saved the link in my favorites.I'll have to talk to my GS buddies and see about reaming it to the Whelen. Thanks to Kyle3 also for the suggestion. If I remember correctly that's about what I gave for the Special Edition Ruger M-77 35 Whelen.I would either like to get a Factory Walnut stock or the New Ruger Synthetic stock for it.I'm not real crazy about the Zytel stock.

My son got one from Grices and paid a little more because of shipping and our dealer having the FFL. It also shot pretty good for a rattletrap. He also ordered the 700 cdl in the 35 whelen but doesn't expect it until around September.

i once read that reloading for the whelen in a 7600 you have to be careful of something or another. the 7600 was kinda picky and only liked factory ammo. any opinions? no problems?

There are only three factory loads available at this time two are from remington, 200 and 250 gr corlokt and the other is from federal, 225 gr tbbc. I am just starting to work a load up for 200 gr bullets. As far as reloading considerations go, the only thing I'm aware of is that you treat a slide action like a lever and you should full length size the cases to ensure reliable feeding of the cartridge. I have not seen a gun yet that only liked factory ammo.

I've worked up 4 different loads with 180gr. FN. All of them are in the 2800-2950 fps area. Really screamers.

Russ, I'd appreciate it if you can provide that load data. Thanks, Rick
