I use to use Remingtons 100 grain pointed soft point and had good luck The best thing you could do is but differant makes of shells and find the one that your rifle shoots the best. As for bullet weight stay clear of varmint weights. Use a good bullet like the Rem.PSP or any of the other premium bullets. The lighter weight bullets tend to either blow up if you hit a shoulder or dont give enuf penetration on angled shots.

I am not happy with the Nosler bullet....it kills nicely but leaves no blood trail and seldom exits the deer....that is my experience with it......in a 7mm Ultra Mag.

Stonecold,
I have been hunting whitetails here in Maine with a .243 for a few years now. (Switched from 30-06) I have shot five deer with the Winchester factory loads,(CXP2 100 grain bullets). All but one shot was a complete pass-through. Excellent blood trails, although two of them dropped where they were standing. I am getting less than 1" groups at 100 yards with this ammo.
Good luck, MH

ive used both 100 grain sierra semi points, 100 grain sierra boat tails, and 100 grain Remington Core lokts. The reloads didn't please me. The core lokt's passed through and the animals disbatched very quickly. 100 grain Remington Core Lokts all the way!

I use Hornady or Federal ammo only. Find the bullet that works best and stick with it. I've put alot off different factory fodder thru the chrony, believe me you can't handload better with average difference in velocity than Hornady and Federal coming in at maybe 12fps difference, with the max sprad being around 25fps.
I've put Rem. &Win Premium stuff thru and com up with varience being close to 125 fps. The difference in getting 3/16th groups or 1 1/4" ones
