You can get a ruger for under $500. Ruger includes excellent steel rings. That will save you at least $30. The rugers and remingtons are finished better than the savage rifles. You get what you pay for.

I have had the following 7MM Rem Mags. 700 Remington BDL, Ruger 77, Winchester M70 and two Savage rifles. They all shot pretty well. For me the Model 700 had the least felt recoil. Maybe it fit me the best. The Winchester I had was not a good one and would not even reach 280 velocities. The Savage had the most felt recoil. The Ruger did everything well. I would pick the 700 Rem first and the Ruger would be a close second. I do like Savage rifles but prefer them in smaller calibers. The way they fit me they always seem to have more recoil. I have had them in most all calibers from 223 to 338 Win Mag. Good shooters.

James B, Did you like your Savages? Did you buy the package deal or just the rifle? If you bought the package, what scope did it have? What models were they?

ORIGINAL: Deer-Slayer22

I need a new rifle and I am pretty sure I want a 7mm rem mag, but I still need help deciding on what brand to get. I have it narrowed to a wood/blued finish and I have a limited budget. I am looking at the Ruger MkII, The Savage 110GXP3, and the Remington BDL. Which would you recomend. Also, if you have any other suggestions in this price range, please tell me. Thanks!!!
If you can afford the Ruger, buy it. They are using good barrels these days, and their scope mounting system is superior!! Savages have a reputation for being vey accurate, but I have never been able to develop warm feelings for their strange and unnecessarily complex bolt design. Besides, their bolts are just plain UGHLY!!

My 260 Savage came as a package. It had a Simmons scope on it a 3x9. I used it for two years and it worked fine. I now have it on my 22 Bolt action Remington 22 rifle. Still works fine. I put an old Bushnell Sportsview 6X on the 260 for a couple elk hunts. Those were good old scopes I bought about 20 of them for 19.00 bucks each. I was selling guns then. I kept a couple and sold the rest. Now they quit making the sportsview and went to the sportsman. I have not tried one of those yet.

I have a Ruger 7mm mag and I realy like it a lot. I looked at the remington basic model and the action was not as smooth as the ruger. Although I am seriously considering a one of the new Remington SAUM (short action ultra mag)
in 7mm mag. because of it's short size. I don't think you can beat Ruger for the price though. I may sell mine for about 400.00 with scope (3x9 Simmons)

Deer Slayer

Of the ones you mentioned I'd grab the Ruger. If I were looking to purchase a rifle from Wal-mart I'd look very hard at the Weatherby Vanguard. Its a Howa and they are very good rifles for the price. I'd buy one before a Ruger or Savage.
