That's not real wood. It's synthic that has a wood look. It's synthic dipped in a wood finish, like they did in camo finish. Looked at one at cabelas a couple of weeks ago. It's the same synthic stock disposed in a wood looking finish.

Was it nice or cheap and tacky?

It seemed to be a little better stock then on the regular adl. If they had one in 300 win I would b probably bought one. Have a set of wood stock old adls in 22/250, 25/06, 270, and 7mm for my nephew and a 300 win would round out the set. It's a bought like the sps stocks a little better then the adl synthetic ones.

Don,t really want a blind mag rifle myself especially with so many others in that price range offerin detachable mags and such.Who wants a blind mag anyway?

Me personally don't like detachable mags something else to loss and break, especial since they are made of plastic.

You said detachable magazine. Yes the floor plates on the remington bdls are metal but many of today's cheaper budget rifles have detachable magazines that are made of primary plastic. I have a ruger american and the magazine is properly 95 percent plastic. Also you don't have the chance of missplacing or breaking the detachable magazine. Had some remington 541/581 mags that simple unloaded themselves when fully loaded because the cheap plastic separated. Remington replaced.

I've had my .243 ADL since 1965 and reloaded mostly 75 gr hornady hollows for coyote and they seem to always have been good enough for a white tail. Son preferred 100 gr soft for deer.

In the 80's I learned the early ADL's, that must have the safety in - Fire - position to unload the magazine, could be modified to function as the newer ADL 700s with the safety on - Safe -. I never cared for the early magazine unloading feature so I modified it and it's had that mod. since then. That could, on a rare occasion, cause a missed shot but I'll take that chance anytime over a accidental discharge.

It's a great gun that can be easily modified, good price, and perfect back-up gun in case a friend shows up.
