NIKON BUCKMASTER OR BUSHNELL 3200?

WHICH ONE DO YOU FEEL IS BETTER THE NIKON BUCKMASTER OR THE BUSHNELL 3200 BOTH 3-9X40? NIKON' S EYE REPLIEF IS 3.5" , THE BUSHNELL' S EYE RELIEF IS 3" . I HAVE THE NIKON BUCKMASTER ON MY KNIGHT MUZZLELOADER, AND I LIKE IT. THEY ARE ABOUT THE SAME PRICE.

I would get a leupold,VXII or even a VXI before either of those ,but of the two the nikon would be my choice

I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE LEUPOLDS, I HAVE A FEW THEM. BUT I DON' T CARE TO SPEND THE " $$$$" SINCE THIS RIFLE WILL BE USED ONCE OT TWICE A DAY.

RE: NIKON BUCKMASTER OR BUSHNELL 3200?

You can buy a Leupold VXI for the same or less than the other two(bushnell and nikon buckmaster)Check cabelas and bass pro.A cheap scope will always cost you more in the long run, might just fail on that one or two shots you take while you are hunting. The only difference in the VXI and VXII is the lens coating and I beleive the VXII has click ajustmentsand the VXI dosn' t.Both have a lifetime warranty.

I was going to buy the Nikon a couple years back. For the same money I bought the Leupold VariXII.. I have no experience with either the Nikon or Bushnell.I know Leupold' s quality, lifetime warranty and Made in USA.

Last count I had 5 3x9x40 buckmasters on different rifles, one 4,5x14x40,and one 4x12 monarch, and one leupold 4x12,II and I like the nikons better than the leupold, just my preference.

RE: NIKON BUCKMASTER OR BUSHNELL 3200?

Nikon all the way. I worked in a sporting goods store for awhile and sold these scopes. The Buckmaster scope had some problems when first introduced (several years ago), but that' s been taken care of. Nikon also has a " no-fault" return policy. Drop it off a cliff and they' ll take care of it.

The only Leupold scope worth anything is the Vari-X III, and it' s too expensive in my opinion. The Nikon Monarch is a great scope if you want to upgrade without going broke.

RE: NIKON BUCKMASTER OR BUSHNELL 3200?

Danny45 - I concure with you from talking to others at gun shops that sell both Nikkon and Leupold. I' d save the extract money to step up to the Nikkon Monarch though. Compare it to the Leupold and others similar scopes. The lense coatings really do seem to bring in more light, making the target look sharper.

Also, the no-fault guarantee with the Nikkon was a big reason I bought one.

I own 2 Nikon Buckmaster scope and 2 leupold VXII' s I like them both and have had no trouble with either one. I do like that Leupold is American Made, Nikon' s are made in the Phillipines if I remember correctly.

F4YG, You are correct that Nikon' s are made in the Phillipines. When I was going to buy the Nikon I saw that it was Made in the Phillpines. That' s when I decided to go with the Leupold.
I always try to buy products " Made in the USA" . The job you save might be your own.

I try to do that too, most of the time, but it is getting very hard to do.

Soark, So is Polaris. Honda is still a Japanese company. Your American money is going abroad. When will this Honda-Polaris debate end?

F4YG, I agree with you. Almost everything you find is made overseas. It' s worth taking the time to look for " Made in the USA" products.I' m not saying foreign made products aren' t well made, but we need to keep the American' s working. Most of the time we don' t have much choice, when I do my money stays right here in the USA.I know we have gotten off the original topic.I just wanted to put my .02 in.

If it were my money I' d get the Bushnell 3200.

The Bushnell has a one piece tube where as the Nikon has a two piece. The Bushnell also has the rain coating.

In fact when I get done with my rifle I' m probably going to put a 3200 or a 4200 on it. Possibly a Sightron.

RE: NIKON BUCKMASTER OR BUSHNELL 3200?

I have a few Leopolds, a couple of Monarchs, one 3x9x40 and a 50 mill objective. I also have some Simmons Atec' s and one 3200. The Nikon' s and Leopold' s are great and the last I heard is the Leopold has an unconditional lifetime warranty. But ya know what? I have hunted three seasons with the Atec' s, one on a contender 45-70, one on a .50 cal Encore muzzleloader and they are clear, hold zero, don' t fog up. My 3200 is on my .300 win mag Encore. You know what? It is as clear as the Monarchs and the recoil from the .300 doesn' t bother it a bit.
I agree with the need to use good scopes and all Tasco' s and most other Simmons aren' t good scopes but the 3200 is as clear as any one of my Nikons. The Leopold' s are good but for the money you can' t beat the Atec or the 3200. Everybody has a preference but it is pretty funny how elitist we have become when it comes to rifle scopes. I know for the elitists, they might be able to tell the difference, I don' t know, but I hunt hard, no matter what the weather, and I hunt everywhere, and I hunt until the sun goes down, and paying $500.00 to $1,000 more for a scope is a waste of money and doesn' t put meat on the pole any easier.

I have two Leupolds, when shopping for the glass on my groundhog gun I started looking Leupold. I looked at the Elite 3200 and it was just as bright, clear and crisp as the Leupolds costing $200 more. It' s your money, if you want a quality scope with an extra 1" of eye relief go Leupold, if you want to save $200 go with the 3200 and you won' t be sorry.

This subject has been discussed at the local coffee shop every since i was 10 yrs old[ whats the best optics]. The main thing is buy a brand that you feel number one that you can afford and you feel confident in shooting . There is a web sight called chuckhawk.com that will give you some insight on some fine optics. If you are only going to deer hunt with this rifle than both scopes are a great choice. i own both and find them very good for nonprecison shooting

I' ve been the most impressed with Bushnell Elite 3200 and Sightron SII scopes of the scopes recently tested, with the Bushnell Elite 4200 and Zeiss Conquests top of the pack if you care to invest more pesos.

Randy maybe you can answer this since you have tested the sightron scopes,Is the sightron just a Burris scope? The reason I asked is that I bought a sightron 11 scope and it came with Burris scope caps on it.Was going to put it on a encore 50 cal after I checked it out on a light recoiling 7/08 but it wouldn' t even track so I took it back and got a buckmaster.
I have 2 Burris and like them too.Haven' t had any problems with them.

Not at all-- were you buying a used scope? Sightron scopes do not come with scope caps at all. Sightron USA is in Youngsville, NC, and all of their scopes are made by Sightron in Japan.

RE: NIKON BUCKMASTER OR BUSHNELL 3200?

No it wasn' t used brand new inthe box,was wrapped in the cloth materal with burris wrote on the scope caps just like the other burris I have.He sent it back to sightron I guess they gave him cridet for it and I got the buckmaster and the difference back.I asked the dealer about it and he said that was the way he got it in,He didn' t have any other ones to compare with but said he would check it out if he got another one in.
Was curious for that reason, maybe that was why something was wrong with it,someone had it ,was sent back to the distrutor and it was sent to this dealer instead of back to the manufactor????
Wish I had known they didn' t come with scope caps I would have sent it back to the sightron myself. It was the first time I had tried one.
Anyhow they got it back the same as I got it wrapped in the materal and the burris scope caps.

RE: NIKON BUCKMASTER OR BUSHNELL 3200?

At one time or another I have bought every thing from Tasco to Zeiss, inlcuding Leupolds and Nikons. To date I have had to send one Leupold and one Nikon back for repairs. The Leupold, a Vari-X II 4-12x40, I beleive it was, would not stay zeroed. The rubber locking gromet would back off the adjustments something terrible. You could zero it today, tomorrow it would be off by as much as 3" . The Nikon, was a Buckmaster 3-9x50, had a broken crosshair, which broke after the 5th shot on a lighweight 6.5x284.

The Leupold service was quick and the problem was fixed correctly (I sent it to Dick Thomas at Precision Reticles) as it was modified to a poistive click adjustments. The Nikon service is still to be determined, as I just sent the scope back to Nikon on 11 SEP 03.

My observations, is that the optics and clearity of the Nkon are superior to Leupolds, but the Nikons may not be as durable and rugged as the Leupold. As of this date I have 10 Leupolds and 14 Nikons, and in my opinion $ for $ you get the most scope with Nikon.

Nikon may by made in the Phillipines, but they are the best thing to come out of the Phillipines since LBFM' s. Some of you ex-military guys that have spent time the Phillipines know exactly what I am talking about!!!!!!![:o]:D;)[>:]

I had a new Buckmaster I bought two or three years ago. I didn,t like it at all. On mine the eye relief was so critical that I just could never get on target without squiming it all over and moving my head around. I traded it in at Scheels. They take trade ins on scopes. I got a Leupold VX-1, I love it. However the 3200 Elite is an excellent scope. Its Both bright and clear and tough as nails. I would buy one in a heartbeat. Scheels didn' t have one at the time or I would have.
