Savage model 11 7mm-08
Bought a left handed Savage Model 11. Took it to the range with factory ammo, Remington Core Lokts. Gun definitely did not like factory ammo. Loaded my own, Hornday soft Pt 139 gr and 120 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip all rounds 2900-3000frs. What a difference! I had this gun shooting groups .41 measured from the outside of each hole. Basically 4 bullets one hole. Most of loads where acceptable but some were killer. This is the only rifle that I have owned that could handle such a variety of loads. Would definitely recommend this one.

I know exactly what you mean. I purchased a youth model 11 with a muzzlebrake for my grandson in 7-08. It also shot several loads very well but one in particular load with 154 gr Hornady bullets put five shots in .24" c-c. Incredible for a moderately priced rifle. There are custom rifles out there that can't get that kind of accuracy.

That's good to hear. I recently picked up a Model 11 Lightweight in 7mm-08 in left handed myself. It was a too good to pass up deal...was supposedly used, but still had the stickers on it and was topped with a 2-10x40 Nikon Monarch in Warne mounts/rings on it and a hard-shell case for $375. Haven't shot it yet, but look forward to doing so.

As most folks know it is not unusual for a particular rifle to like (or not like) certain loads. Fortunatley for the non-handloaders there are many, many factory loads available for the more popular cartridges ... such as 243 Win., 308 Win., 270 Win., 7 mm Rem. Mag., 7mm/08 Rem, 30.06 Spr., 300 Win. Mag., etc. And my expereince has been that one can usualy find a factory hunting round that will do just fine. The sub-1MOA load is indeed rare, but they are out there for some rifles.
It is when you get to the odd hunting rounds such as 6 mm Rem., 6.5x55 SE, 260 Rem., 257 Roberts, 7 mm Mauser, 303 Brit., 300 Savage, some of the "Short Magnums", the "big bores" such as 45/70 Gov. and 444 Marlin, etc. ... and any of the "proprietary" cartridges ... that's when the availability of factory loads drops off and the advantages of hand loading really shine.
