My rifle-Remington 700mtlss 7-08
My scope-2.5-8X36 leupold VXIII / Leupold DT mounts& rings The ammo- Handload-154gr hornady interlock over 48gr H4895 (est.2600fps) Shot was about 40 yds. entered through the left shoulder, exited just behind the right, tore up both lungs, heavy 60yd bloodtrail. I absolutly love this rifle and caliber! Alot of buzz around here about the 7mm-08 but I havent seen too many pics of game killed w/ it, so I thought Id post a few. You know it's sort of funny that you're using 154 gr bullet out of what is suppose to be a 140 gun. The funny part is that i get my best groups using 150 Win PP. Mine will shoot 140's well but it seems to light up and shine with the 150's.

Well since you asked, I hope you don't have a weak stomach.
Shot this doe saturday with my 7-08 and a Nosler 140gr Ball. Tip. Range: 12 feet (144 inches) if you don't count the 25 feet I was up in the tree..... she was directly underneath me. Hit her right tween the eyes, and everything from the scalp down dropped out the bottom. There was no tracking required. :s4: |

That headshot doe is gnarly! |
I really like the look of that 700 you have.
I plan to outfit my son(maybe even myself ) with a 7-08 in the next year or so. |

7mm-08 hard to beat in my opinion
I have 3 rifles in the great 7mm-08 cartridge and they always seem to be my go to guns for my yearly KY deer hunting trips .
Ruger #1 SS w/laminated stock topped with a Nikon 3x9x40 Remington 700 BDL topped with a Burris II 3x9x40 TC Encore SS 24 ported topped w/ Leupold VXII 3x9x40 I use Federal Fusion and Federal Bear Claws both in 140gr with very good results, one shot and dropped with-in sight. :s4: |
Impressive. When the time comes to get my wife a deer rifle, I'm leaning more and more away from the 243 Win to the 7mm-08.
Oh, and BTW, that doe looks like a real hog in those pics. How much did she weigh approx? Mike |

Thanks! she was a fatty and not fun to drag out. I really wanted to weigh her this morning but I was pressed for time so I just skinned and quarterd and put her on ice in the cooler. I bet I get 40+ lbs of boned out meat at least ,the tenderloins were huge and check out these backstraps!

I am a huge fan of the -08 as well even though i shoot a .280. My wife shoots the 7mm-08 with 140 gr silvertips. Deadly combo. Has yet to fail her and the furthest shot for her was 270 yds. Heavy damage to the animal with little felt recoil.

7mm-08
I took a slickhead at 175 yds. Dropped where it was standing. The round I was using was federal fusion 140 gr.
|
I seen the front shoulder of a buck hit with a 7-08 coupled with nosler 140 gr. BTs. They don't go very far when hit with that combo, usally straight down.

That's a great rig!

I never get any massive damage with my 7-08... but I do always get a deer that goes 30 yards or less and crashes with a nice blood trail.
I used Prvi Partizan ammo of all things this year just because it grouped so good in both 7-08's and the fact it was on sale at Midway for like 13 or 14 bucks a box and I just wanted the brass and some plinking ammo. The stuff grouped better than anything factory I have tried so far and performed very similarly to coke lokt ammo on the deer. Shot 2 does with it and have no complaints. Aimed to take out both front shoulders on the first one just to see how the bullet would do. Pretty impressed with that stuff for the price! |
I've killed many, many, deer with the 7mm-08. It is an awesome deer cartridge that will never let you down when you do you part!
