rifle trade

I just got a chance to trade my rem.788 in 308cal to a new in box savage 10gxp in 300SAUM and I was wondering what you guys thought about the savage.I am not trying to start the rem. vs savage crap I already own both.I was just wondering about the rifle and caliber capabilities as a long range deer rifle 500yards+?

IMO your 788 would have to be in pretty bad shape before I would make that trade.

Also IMO that cartridge is not catching on. And the ammo is priced through the roof. Also if your are serious about 500 yard and beyond shooting, then neither rifle is optimum(or even acceptable in my mind). Tom.

I have to agree. Keep the 788! They are plain,no nonsense, very dependable and accurate rifles.

I'm not a fan of any short/ultra mag cartridge.

Agreed.......Plus the fact that the 788 just keeps going up and up in value. They're a sought-after gun on the market.

in reply to headache0001 what rifle and caliber would be satisfactory without building a custom rifle costing 1000's of dollars,I was thinking of a rem.700 in 300 win mag.with a pillar bedded stock, new trigger or would you go with something in .284 caliber or something else.

Remington Senderos and 700P's make great beginner LR rigs...

Well, I'm going to say good job. Glad to see you step into a Savage. I also like both, but only own a Savage. Not sure which Savage 10 that is, but it should be a shooter. So, how does it shoot?

i would not take a hundred of any rifle in a rem saum cartridge for a 788 in any caliber.
