I use to use a Mossberg 12 Ga. Tropy Slugster with cantilever barrel, now use a 11/87 SP 12 Ga.with cantilever barrel have a Leupold VXIII 3.5x10 and it works great. I did have trigger reworked on it and I use Rem. Core-Lokt Ultra Slugs. I did just get my grandson a H&R 20 Ga. Ultra Slug youth model for Christmas, Sure hope it works fine in 2009.

I'm gonna be a minority here but I shoot a Browning A-bolt slug gun. Caught it the year the quit making them and I get ragged one holers at 100 yards and have killed deer out to 150 with it hitting it dead nuts where I wanted the slug to go.

back up gun is a NEF 20 guage rifled single shot. Not the bull barrel. It shoots very well too

Remington 870. Fully rifled barrel (21 inch). Drilled & Tapped recently for a scope. Weaver Scope rings, Nikon ProStaff 2-7x32. 100 yards I am getting a 5 inch group.
Holy cow that doesn't sound too goodto me! Iown a mossburg 500 with a 24" smooth bore barrel shooting 2 3/4" remington slugger's and I get a 2.5" group at 100 yards with open sights! At 50 yards I can pretty much almost hit the same hole. I love my mossburg!

11-87 with rifled barrel, open sights. Couldn't believe how hard it was to find iron sighted barrel for a common shotgun anymore!! Shoots great, no blow-back issues with heavy recoiling slugs like I had with several pumps. If I am shooting far enough to need a scope, I take my muzzleloader anyways.

Open sights are great are great for those blessed with good eye sight. As for me I need all the help I can get "Leupold".

I hear ya buddy......After surgery on both eyes the only way I can shoot a long gun is with a scope. I don't even want to tell you how bad my handgun shooting is..

Americaneagle your grandson won't be disappointed. Bought one for my son and put the nikon bdc slug scope on it works great. My son got a nice 9pt at 10yards this year on his first hunt.
