RE: Slug gun
I own the 870 express combo and it has been a great gun but I recently bought the H&R ultra slug gun in a 12 guage with the thumbhole laminated stock and all I can say is wow. The gun is awesome. I added the Nikon 3-9 slughunter bdc scope and I cant miss. Was well worth the money spent.

RE: Slug gun
ORIGINAL: Hunting the North A few years backI purchased a Remington 870 Express Magnum combo from Gander Mountain. Package included a 28” smooth bore barrel and a 23” rifled barrel with a cantilever scope mount. I mounted a Nikon Pro-Staff 2-7x 32mm shotgun scope on the slug barrel. I have been extremely happy with the whole package including the scope. Shoots 2 ¾” – 3 ½ " shells. Slug barrel is very accurate. I shot this 200 pound doe through the heart at 110 yards with a Hornady SST. See attached photo. http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff75/huntingthenorth/P1010002.jpg |

RE: Slug gun
For me, a Mossberg 930 combo with a red dot. If the trigger is that bad, I'll find a work around. It has to be better than a Ruger M77 trigger!

RE: Slug gun
I know some people that use 20 gauge H&Rs and love 'em. I'm thinking of getting a new slug gun, and I've narrowed it down to getting a 20gauge rifled barrel for my Prohunter, or buying an H&R, Benelli M2 20 gauge, or the Winchester SX3..... if you can call that narrowing it down.

ORIGINAL: CarpetBagger the mossberg triggers suck though!! Well, you scared me when you posted this, but for a slug gun, I'm very happy with the trigger on my new 930. Pull weight is not to heavy, but there is quite a bit of creep. It is still much more shootable than many triggers I pull trying guns out. |
RE: Slug gun
H&R miss fires......Happened at range twice. Now tonight shot at 6 pointer squeeze trigger click nothing..pull hammer back second try nothing....Firing pin hits primer. What the hells going on?

RE: Slug gun
The 870, 1100 or 11-87 in 20 gauge are sweet shooting guns. Skip the cantilever and have it drilled and tapped for a scope mount, you will be much happier in the long run.

What the hells going on? What slug are you using? There was another post about a slug, and I don't remember which one (a Remington I believe?) that had a run come out with the primers set too deep. Also, check your transfer bar, I had one that broke on an old H&R 20ga. But that won't cause an occasional misfire, that causes an 'always' misfire. |
