I know this forumis for firearms . . ., but what do you all think or hear about Remington's "Managed-Recoil " ammo?

In particular, the .300 Win Mag?

Just "to the point" responses please . . . no preaching.

Managed recoil ammo is good stuff. I have seen the 30.06 & .308. I tried it to see how it worked for my wife. It held the same basic point of impact as standard ammo, and it performed nicely on game. There is nothing wrong with it...... My wife can use the standard ammo, but the managed recoil is nicer to shoot. And she is more accurate with it due to less recoil. Give it a try.

It is accurate enough out to 150 or 200 yards with my 7 Mag but the groups open up twice as much if not more than a regular old soft point. The soft points are good because of the type of powder they use is not nearly as bad as the premium ammo. Have you thougt about a recoil pad?

My wife used it in .308 when she first started shooting. She has since "graduated" to the real stuff. However, it shot well out of her Ruger Compact.

I was under the impression that "managed Recoil" ammo was nothing more than lower muzzle velocity than "standard" stuff. Doesn't "recoil" fit somewhere into the Newtonian "Laws of Conservation of Energy"? I was figuring one of those Laws was why that 416 Rem. Mag. stomped me into submission !!!

HANDLOADERS have been managing recoil for years and years..all they ever did was cut the powder charges.. I've toned down my 7mm mags and .338 wm for years..no need to change bullets, just cut the powder charge .. HOWEVER, there is no such things as too dead, dead is dead wether it's the result of a 3000 fps hit or 2600 fps hit...on the other hand there is such a things as that wasn't enough of a hit to have immediate effects to the animal.. just watch how far you tone them down..tracking can be tuff if there's no blood trail..

I've used the stuff for the last couple of years in my .30-06. I got it originally for my daughter to shoot so that she would be able to handle my rifle and I wouldn't have to buy another one just for her (since we'd be in the treestand together). The recoil claims live up to the marketing - the recoil is definitely about 1/2 of regular loads. On the other hand, I did not find that with my rifle the "don't have to re-zero" claim was valid, but I didn't do a lot of shooting to really say one way or the other. I just zeroed the rifle with the managed recoil loads and then shot a few regular Corelokts to see where they'd land and they were a bit high and right, not as close as that nice little picture on the box. Probably good enough for 100 yards or less, but I wouldn't expect them to hit near point=of-aim past that.

I will probably continue to use the loads for regular hunting just because I don't have a need to shoot more than 50 yards or so where my treestand is now. Really no need to beat myself up if I don't have to do so. The loads are supposed to be good out to 200 yards and on the land where I now hunt, I can't imagine making shots much more than that, especially since I don't regularly practice longer shots.

I'd like to try the Federal reduced recoil loads, but haven't found them until lately. May give those a try just to see what they're like.
