I don' t have any experience with Brownings, so I can' t help you there. I do have a Tikka, though, and it' s a heck of a gun. Tikkas are alot less expensive than a Browning, if that matters to you.

Great choice with the 270WSM. I think that is the most interesting of the short mags (at least until they come out with a .257).

I' ve also been looking seriously at one of the Tikka " hunters" in a .300WM for a new Elk rifle. Everyone I' ve talked to who has a Tikka is very impressed. It' s functional, not a fancy firearm, with the 1 in. grouping at 100 yds. test firing at the factory guarantee. It' s a couple hundred $ less at least than firearms that will fire a group like that out of the box that I know of.

Floating barrel, strong, smooth action, good feel to the hand grip and other nice features are also a plus. It' s also a quality firearm from the country of my ancestors, which is a personal reason I' d like a Tikka or a Sako to go with my American made firearms. The Finns are known for designing and manufacturing quality products, so I think I' m sold on one.

I' m waiting for this years updated models, which the gunshop here said will be arriving in late April/May. There might be some more improvements I' d like to take advantage of.

Either. I only have experience with Browning Abolts, very smooth, troublefree, accurate shooters. I know many guys who own the Abolt in different calibers and styles, not one has been disappointed.

Tikka, can' t say that I have ever heard a real complaint, either.

Like I said either, just buy what feels right.

FWIW, I have had a tikka 308 stainless for about a month. I have never bought a factory rifle that had a trigger this good or a bolt that was so smooth. It also shoots damn good

by the way, the new Tikka T3 will have a long action only and will incorporate dofferent length bolt stops to meet the mength of a 308 or a short magnum. so you wont have a short action. I dont know why probably cost cutting. The whitetail hunter is not like this but they dont come in short mags

Yes I was just reading about the same size action for all calibers, don' t know wether I like that idea or not.Still haven' t seen one yet to decide, but have looked at the browning and it has a good feel to it.
Was at the range one day and a guy had a new browning in 25/06,he had been shooting before I got there,I set up and shot three rounds @100, he was shooting to so then he wanted to walk out and check his targets so I walked out with him,he was all over the place didn' t have a bullet within 5in of each other. He looked at the group I just shot and asked if I would shoot his and see if it was him or the gun,I put it in my rest and shot a 3 in group,he had a boss on it and a cheaper model scope,so I am thinking that was the problem, but I have that on my mind about the browning too because I have never had a browning.
The one I was looking at was a stalker classic, with 23 in barrel,in 270 wsm, felt really good.On the site it says that the medillon is bedded and free floated but didn' t say that on the hunter classic does anyone know wether the hunter is too?

Herman I went to thje range today. I shot a .502" group at 100 yards with hornady 150 gr SST' s and a .724 " group with 7.62mm FMJ. No 5" groups for sure. I also had a friend test the factory trigger pull, it was 3 pounds.:D

Good shooting<i shoot sst' s in all my deer rifles and they shoot great in all of them.
I don' t really need a new rifle but got this little urge to get one of the short mags to give a try.I am thinking the 270 wsm because I have a 243,260,7/08/280and 2--30/o6 but no mags, don' t like the recoil that much.
Was hoping someone would expand on the magazine being the same size for all cals in the tikka,I don' t know if that is a good thing or not, hoping some of the gun builders will give their openion, they should know more about those things/

RE: Tikka or Browning

Herman, the Classic hunter is a free floated barrel, but i don' t believe it is glass bedded (like the medallion and ss stalker). I have a medallion in a 270 it will easily print under an 1" at 100, I do have a Leupold Vari X III scope on top though. Buddy of mine this fall bought a 7 mm SS Stalker with the same scope and the same results...only thing he did was drop the trigger pull to 3 pounds from the 6 it was set at from factory. It is quite possible the BOSS wasn' t dialed in, the gun didn' t like the bullet he was using, scope, not cleaned properly or the gun itself. From those who have and what I have heard the BOSS is not worth the price, many other breaks that will do a much better job.

On the same tokin, if your leary about Browning then go for a Tikka. The word is they are " SHOOTER' S" . You may want to consider the 300 WSM, since you have the 280, 7-08. It will give you a bit more than your 06' s and the recoil is tolerable...just a thought!!!!
