Winchester Model 70 .375H&H, we need it!!!
So apparently winchester rifles are back! and why they don't offer the .375H&H illudes me, mass marketing?
Just my opinion but the model 70 is ideal dangerous game action, one of the main reasons I want a winchester in the first place, great action built for an african rifle.....and I don't forsee them chambering a .416 or .458, so at least a .375, and cmon a .375H&H has to be more popular than a .416 or .458. And btw just in case they are thinking of a 416 or 458, they should make it a .416 Ruger, and a .458 Lott, please no .458 win mag. |

Better yet a .416 Taylor! FL size .458 brass and and get .416 Rigby power in a shorter case.400gr at 2400fps.................................Harold

I do know the .416 rem I think had some jamming problems back in the day, really not a fan of the .416 rem, but a the .375H&H and .458 Lott are clear choices,
The .375 Ruger, and a .416 Ruger would be a great round I think. I'd be surprised if they offered anything over .375, I just really want a model 70 in .375, the fact that they don't offer one is kinda surprising to me. I know probably way more guys want 300's, but the model 70 action is a great reason to buy a big game cartridge.....ie .375 and of course a double rifle is the way to go......course I'm not sure how many guys are willing to go from $1500 to $15,000! for a cheap double? only alternative is a mauser 98, or model 70 action ....so for now a bolt action will have to do......not ready for that double just yet. |

The Model 70 action has a proven track record of performancewith African game cartridges. But if you want new and mauser claw extractor and have an extra $3,000.00this looks pretty sweet.

Old elk I understood your point in the first post with regard to action length not being ideal in your opinion. I just was stating thatdespite its length it has been proven reliable on many hunts by many hunters for many years. Was neverreally saying it is "the best"

Scene it,
looks ok, though the ruger, and the cz fancy grade both look nicer IMO. though that Dakota is looking really sweet. Standard length action vs. longer actions, ie .375h&h?
Less you're modifying an older action/rifle, who cares? many rifle makers chamber the .375H&H so whats the matter if its a longer action? |
