RE: 7600 remington

My 7600.270 is less than half the recoil of my 700bdl .270.. My wife shoots the 7600 .270 and she only weighs 100lbs and is about 5-4... judt for comparision..

I'm about the same size, except I weigh more now though. I probably weighed 90 lbs then. I have never shot another other than the one we owned, but there is no way ours was half the recoil of a standard length/weight bolt gun. Not quite twice the recoil, but it was for sure noticable. The 30-06 was a bit much for me at that size, but it was managable with the savage. Not so with the 7600, if that had been my gun it would have not got shot very much.

Weight, stock design and gun fit plays a huge role in FELT recoil though. It's quite possible my savage just fit me better.

Now a days they make some really good recoil pads though, so if you didn't like the recoil it could be tamed down I'm sure. And in the field you won't even notice it.

I think a lot of it will depend on how the gun fits you and the caliber you pick.

I never thought they saved me much in recoil nothing like a auto does any way. As paul mentions fit has a lot to do with felt recoil, if the gun fits you it will not feel as bad gauranteed!

My 7600 is original with the plastic buttplate and all!!![:o] Being I am use to a longer rifle with a real recoil pad that little 270 lets me know she's their. Not use to its size and handling like I once wasso itseems to boot more then I recall;).

RE: 7600 remington

I have a 7600 carbine in 30-06 with a Williams peep sight. I was having difficulty getting low enough on the stock to see quickly through the peep since the 7600 comes with a raised comb. The older 760 had a straight stock and was actually made for open sights but the 7600 is set up for a scope. I didn't want to shave off the raised comb on a brand new gun so I called Remington. They sent me a straight stock from a 20 ga shotgun without the raised comb that perfectly matched the standard one in color and finish. I now have a 7600 that is set up similar to the 760. I painted the open (without the screw in) Williams sight red and installed a red fire dot front sight. I hunt in snow and the target aquisition is so fast with that set up. The accuracy with even the open peep is excellent since your eye automatically finds the center of the ring and I never found the recoil to beas bad as my Ruger 77 Ultra Lite in 30-06.

My favourite gun is my 7600 in 270Win. Love the pump action for follow-up shots. Have no issues with accuracy. My Dad has knocked down a lot of deer in his day and a handful of moose too. His gun of choice. His old faithful: Rem 760 in 30-06. If you are comfortable with the pump action, it is a really nice gun. So you have two votes from this corner.
