Default Favorite Weatherby Cartridge

Ijust read which weatherby rounds are most popular, which are as follows,.30-378, followed by the .300 Wby, .257 Wby. My personal believe is that the .340 Wby is better than both of their .30's. And although the .257 may be awesome to some, I read that it's 18% efficient? Basically I just wanted to note that I love the .340 Wby and think its the best .338 out there. By the way the .340 shoots a 225gr bullet faster than the .300 wby shoots a 200gr!

Weatherby is overrated, never seen a Weatherby cartridge kill any better than a Remington or Winchester. How much experience do you have in this area, anyway? You seem like someone who spends too much time reading ballistics catalogs, instead of hunting

"By the way the .340 shoots a 225gr bullet faster than the .300 wby shoots a 200gr! " That's because a 30 cal. 200 grain bullet is large for that caliber. A 225 grain bullet in .340 is about optimum.

I'm not a fan of any Weatherby Cartridges really. I have a buddy that shoots a 257 and its impressive, and if I absolutely thought I needed one it would be the 30-378.

You couldn't give me a Weatherby and expect me to keep it. It would quickly get traded for a Sako.

Radiused shoulders, belted cases, lots of freebore in the barrel, 9 locking lugs...... no thanks.
I would take a 330 Dakota,338 remington ultra mag, or338 Lapua mag over the 340Wby mag or 338-378 Wby mag any day.

I hunted a good bit with the 7mm WM. This is a very fine long distance cartridge. I had a Euro Mark. The rifle was very accurate with the heavier bullets(175), but it did not shot the light bullets very well. Very beautiful, and high quality firearm. Tom.

I've never owned a Weatherby chambering but shot a few, including the 460. If I were to pick one for the majority ofhunting I do, it would be the 257WM.
