jeepkid/Rammer/1shot 1kill/FA/retaks/sheeter 7MM,
The rifle I am looking to scope is the Remington 700 SPS DM in 243.
The scope I am mounting is the Burris LRS Signature Select 4-16X 44MM w/ flip-up lense covers.
Here is the tuff one; burris now makes Signature ZEE rings which "should" be mounted with what they call a "insert kit".
Sounds great, but I have no experience with these new rings.
Lastly, there is a question concerning which base "should" be used.
The one that seems to be the "best" is these new Burris XTB weaver style bases.
If anyone has had personal experience with the "new" burris items I have mentioned I would love to hear your opinions.

Good choice in scopes. The insert kit, I believe, is to raise your 44mm scope far enough off your rifle barrel so it doesn't touch. I have used the ZEE rings in a low mount application and they worked great. Weaver, marks their rings to which ones should be used for 40mm, 50 mm. scope etc. If you are going to use flipoff caps like Butler Creek, make sure you account for the thickness of covers. As far as the bases go, that's pretty much a personal preference thing. I like Weaver bases with Weaver style rings but maybe other folks don't care for that combo. It's all in what you like.

I can't help ya out with the Burris bases/rings. I've never used them before.

Did you end up buying the Remington?

This whole "set-up" is going to be a Christmas gift, so I have to wait for Santa to arrive.
The "package" as I discribed above is what will be under the Tree Christmas morning.

The rifle I am familiar with. It is the old ADL model, with a detachable mag. My only gripe with them is, they rust very easily.

The Burris scope looks good, can't wait to hear your review on it.

Zee Insert kit - synthetic insert that goes between the ring and the scope. Burris basically states this eliminates marring, slip, even hold across the rings and misalignment. An enhancement they feel is an alternativeto hand lapping rings. Personally I have never used Burris mounts, though I have seen them in action and they appear to be of good quality. I concur the inserts on the zee ring do add a little bit to the installation as the inserts canmove and make setting up eye relief,etc a littlemore then non insert rings. Certainly do-able for most individuals.

As far as Burris scopes I have personal experience with the Signature Series (not the LRS model). Functioned fine in a variety of conditions, good POI tracking, held zero,good light gathering/transmission and decent clarity. Though for the money they fetch north of the 49th I wasn't wowed by its optical performance either and found it to be a little critical of eye positioning. I would have kept it but had a guy who just needed oneand traded for aZeiss Conquest...no regrets on that deal;).

In regards to the LRS, unless you night hunt or have really poor vision lighted reticles are of little practical use IMHO. They are heavier, require battery maint.(here that means a possibility of failure due to freezing) and electronics(aka moreto go wrong).

Never owned an SPS but have had several 700's,still my preferred action.

I prefer s&k rings/bases-all steel,projectionless,bombproof,and light.
